Met. Jonah
« on: June 02, 2011, 09:33:04 AM »
Can someone please outline exactly what the concern is with the OCA's Primate? Over the last few months I have read many uncharitable comments on various blogs about the metropolitan but not being a member of the OCA I am not sure why. What exactly is he accused of?

The communiques of the OCA Holy Synod are the only official documents that we have that are reliable. Anything else is conjecture. Please see:

Go here for one perspective.

Go here for another.

There are many interests involved, but the major issue is the degree to which the Orthodox Church should be "modernized."  The debate has generated much heat, but relatively little light. I'll leave it at that.

Anything else is conjecture.

Without a doubt!  Conjecture and spin doctoring.

I find it almost funny that one of the bishops that is being portrayed as a chief antagonist against HB was (and continues to be, I might add!) a good friend of HB.

It's an old political tactic - sling mud everywhere and see where it sticks.  Make as many outrageous accusations as you can, in order to see who doesn't have an answer, and for what.  Not-so-much a Christian thing to do.

If anything, I have to admire HB's restraint.  I know he's a firm believer in the freedom of speech and freedom of the press, etc.  That's precisely why he's not attempting to stop, or even discourage, the ridiculous accusations that are being made.  He trusts that the Lord will reveal the truth in His time.

Personally, I think we may have another St Nektarios of Aegina here.
Was it Divine Liturgy in English in XIXth Century Russia?  No, it was not I am the telling you!  Is OUTRAGE!  Now is to be Slavonic music and Byzantine vestment in same church. This is what when KGB run the seminary.

it seems that Met. Jonah is taking heat for being to outspoken. Seems trivial

That is a logical inference from that one article.
