It truly is!  I wonder why sound teaching doesn't effect people in a more positive manner.  It doesn't surprise me that some people look at things like this, throw up their hands, and say "who needs the Church?"

Or, "Jesus is my church. The h*** with the institutional church!"

That seems to be the mantra of the many.

Yes, that is true.  But I'm meeting many who say "To h*** with God, Jesus, Allah, etc.  Who needs any of it?"

Ah, the life of a college teacher.

Then little has changed in the last thirty years.

It is difficult to believe...but it always has been.

In our age "not even the believers believe," including many clergy.

So sad.

Lest anyone on the Eastern side gloat over Cardinal Law's troubles (and I am happy to see nobody is): http://www.adn.com/alaska/story/2275203p-2337978c.html

How very sad. I have a December 1983 National Geographic about Byzantium in which this man, an Aleut with a Russian name, is seen leading a service with a Tlingit congregation at the cathedral and showing the writer the icon of Our Lady of Sitka: 'We change very little - that is the essence of Orthodoxy, the true faith'. That quotation has stayed with me all these years.
