I just finished Sailing the Wine Dark Sea: Why the Greeks Matter by Thos. Cahill .  Though He said some very brief kind words about "Orthodox Spirituality" I think he really got Byzantium wrong. Tthere was also a certain feel to the Book I am a little uncomfortable with though I cannnot articulate what it is. Some of it is also good, especially the way the topics are divided. Is anyone familiar with the Book or author? I would very much like your opinions.

Isn't Cahill also the author of "How the Irish Saved Civilization"?  That's one of those books I always meant to read but never go around to it.

Yes, that's him.  He also wrote The Gifts of the Jews and Desire of the Everlasting Hills -- Irish and Jews were quite good; haven't actually cracked open Desire yet.
