St. Ignatius the God-Bearer
« on: May 25, 2011, 03:25:22 AM »
How does the Greek distinguish between St. Ignatius the God-Bearer and the Theotokos?  If Theotokos means literally God-Bearer (which I was under that understanding), then is St. Ignatius the God-Bearer called St. Ignatius the Theotokos in Greek?

Someone with superior Greek could probably correct me, but since I'm here ...

"Tokos" means "to bear" as in to physically give birth to something, like a tree bears fruit.

The title "god-bearer" is a translation of "theophoros", which could also be fairly translated "god-bringer". The myrrh-bearing women, for instance, are "myrophoroi".
The Episcopallian road is easy and wide, for many go through it to find destruction. lol sorry channeling Isa.

Saint Ignatius is Theophoros. In distinction, it is better to conceive of Theotokos as something along the lines of "birth-giver of God", rather than just simply "bearer of God".

Thank you both a good deal.

These are the types of things that make me want to learn Greek.
