Interesting--But I though Christopher was just a popular myth?
Sorry folks that was just a joke--but really isn't funny as that is the line now accordign to many RC Priests I have spoken too.

I thought the dog's head was a representation of St. Christopher being a very physically unattractive man, with a face like a dog's. That's what I've read anyway.

I heard that he was very devout, as well as being very very very attractive. He asked God to change his face so that he wouldn't get distracted by the women tempting him. God made him so ugly... I guess you could say dog ugly, that he is depicted with a dog's head.... Quite possibly an old-wives tale, but that's what I got when I was about 10 years old and noticed it as a fresco at a church.

Now where were we? Oh yeah - the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn’t have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

This is quite an interesting thread!
I hadn't heard any of these things about St. Christopher until now. That icon is unlike any I've ever seen before too!
I am used to seeing St. Christopher depicted as a man of large stature carrying the Christ Child on his shoulder - are we talking about the same St. Christopher?
