So what does a Te Deum differ from a Te Deum service? A Te Deum service is a Te Deum with a blessing? FYI, the Te Deum is sung at the end of Matins/Office of Readings in the Roman Rite. I think that this must be a latinisation. |

It looks like Te Deum is sort of a thanksgiving molebien which is an abbreviated and modified Matins. http://liturgia.cerkiew.pl/euch/molebny/dziekczynny.pdfI don't know whether the hymn is used in the liturgical context within the Church. Maybe in the Western Rite? |

I've seen the Te Deum printed in Romanian liturgical books from the beginning of the 20th century; the rubrics always permitted its substitution with the Great Doxology. In the Romanian church he Te Deum is also used because its attribution to St. Nicetas of Remesiana, so a liturgical text originating in the Latin speaking Christian communities of the Balkans/Illyricum Latin Christianity of which Romanians can claim some descent of.

In that link there is this adnotation on p.6: Jeśli zaś zechcą, śpiewa się hymn św. Ambrożego, biskupa Mediolanu – patrz s. . The Te Deum is attributed to St.Ambrose, so I think it may the same hymn that Roman Catholics sing in the Divine Office each Sunday and Holy Day outside of Lent. In Poland, we also sing this on Easter, parish feast days and before Eucharistic processions after Communion. On the Russian and Ukrainian wikipedias the versions of the Te Deum are side by side. So it seems that this is the same hymn that we Roman Catholics sing. |

The Te Deum is perfectly Orthodox, being authored by an Orthodox saint when the West was still Orthodox.

Regarding the Te Deum: In the Russian Orthodox tradition the Te Deum or "Tebia Boga Hvalim, Tebia Gospoda Ispovedayem..." is sung in the Thanksgiving Molieben -- have sung it for many years at moliebens and love it. One of my favorite hymns... Tpenkrat
