My husband is officially done with the Army National Guard in terms of drilling etc. But his IRR (inactive ready reserve) status doesn't expire until August. The unit he was a part of was just notified that they may be deployed overseas again. His unit is extremely short of people and there is a chance that he could be pulled off IRR to deploy again with his unit. Obviously we don't want him to go for a variety of reasons. His back still isn't healed and we have no hope that he would receive therapy if he was re-activated. I will be selfish and ask for prayers that if the unit is tapped for deployment that it is outside the limit of his IRR so that he doesn't have to go. In the past his unit has pulled people off IRR before the IRR expired for other purposes knowing that they would then be forced to deploy with the unit. One man had a clause in his contract that prohibited his deployment overseas, they found a way around it and deployed him anyway. |

Sorry- IRR stands for Individual Ready Reserve, not inactive ready reserve.

He herniated 2 discs 1 month before his last deployment and they deployed him (doped up for the pain) anyway. He actually herniated 1 disc 10-07 and they forced him to do pre-deployment training just one month later. The herniation of the 2 discs was exactly 14 months after his first disc herniation. They filled out the paperwork so he was deployable long enough to fly overseas, put him on profile once he arrived, but didn't give him any physical therapy or treatment. He worked 12-16 hours a day 7 days a week in lieu of treatment. |
