During Orthros, at the Gospel reading, the priest stands to the side of the altar. Yet during the Divine Liturgy, when it's time for the Gospel, the priest reads from the center of the doorway. I would like to know, why is there the difference?

Thank you.  angel

I've wondered, too, what the meaning is, because on feast days of the Lord (even if on a Sunday) the Orthros Gospel is read from the Holy Doors.

The Orthros Gospel is a borrowing from the Rite of Jerusalem where the Patriarch read the Orthros Gospel in the Tomb.

The angel stood and announced the Resurrection on the right side of the tomb to the women, hence why the priest reads the Gospel from the right side... but this is just for Sunday Matins, all other times it is read from the doors. Also, in Russian usage it is read where it is, that is, infront of the altar.
