Oh how fun! This is not at all that surprising considering the bizarre sectarian groups existing throughout Russian history. Consider the Ioannites, a group who worshiped St. John of Kronstadt as God or some manifestation of God. He had to take out whole page newspaper ads to denounce them, it was so bad.
