It's no secret that I have been struggling with the veneration of icons.  It's kind of a head game because in reality it is paint & wood that one is venerating, but in the mind, heart, and soul the individual is venerating the representation of the person or God in the icon.

If this is the case, does it matter if one venerates a computer screen?  If there is a jpg image of the Theotokos on an individual's monitor and in reality he or she is venerating a resolution formed by pixels on an electronic screen, but in their mind, heart, and soul is wishing to venerate the Mother of God, is this okay?

AFAIK the picture is an icon when it's solid so digital images are not.

I'm sure the Russians debated whether or not it was ok to venerate printed icons when they first came out.

They went with 'yea' then, I assume the same would go here.

The printed icon is a meterial object. It can't become anything else. The computer screen just shows icon, but after a while the image disappears. Just like you would see an icon behind the window.
