I was taught during my half year Indology studies that there were indeed some groups from the steppes that come to India, and if I'm not mistaken, some other members of these groups chose some parts of Europe.
Precisely! These were the Indo-Europeans.

Quote
I'm not sure about it; I remember that sanksrit has quite a lot of consonants (but maybe not so much as Hindi, that because of some words borrowed from Arabic has to have them more, I think); and maybe generally the pronunciation over the centuries has been being simplified and unified, sometiems the opposite process happen too.  So, I woudln't say that's a proof for something.
It does, but all Indo-Europeans languages either clashed velars with palatovelars (most did) or with labiovelars (Sanskrit and Slavic languages did). This is why night and eight have similar endings in so many European languages (noite/oito, notte/otto, oíche/ocht, natë/etë), but not in Slavic languages (compare noch/vosem) or Sanskrit (nakta/asta or something like that).

"May the Lord our God remember in His kingdom all Holy Catholic Apostolic Church, which heralds the Word of Truth and fearlessly offers and distributes the Holy Oblation despite human deficiencies and persecutions moved by the powers of this world, in all time and unto the ages of ages."

Anyhow when God was asked he said Eastern Orthodox is true Church and not Catholic Church. So come home and enjoy.

Bobsheaux's review of Superman's Metropolis, a comic that combines Superman with the 1920's German movie.

It's very flawed as Bob points out, but I still have a lot of love for it (still need to read the sequels, though).

One of my new favorite youtube channels is Lazy Game Reviews. Along with the review content, he has a lot of neat things on the history of PCs, the internet, companies, etc. Like this one on the history of Dell. Or this one on the history of Minesweeper and its... surprisingly intense competitive scene!

I play minesweeper competitively with others on a shared computer during wait times for data to be generated.
If you cannot remember everything, instead of everything, I beg you, remember this without fail, that not to share our own wealth with the poor is theft from the poor and deprivation of their means of life; we do not possess our own wealth but theirs.  If we have this attitude, we will certainly offer our money; and by nourishing Christ in poverty here and laying up great profit hereafter, we will be able to attain the good things which are to come. - St. John Chrysostom

The Dom reviews YOU: Episode 1. A YouTube reviewer reviews works submitted to him by his subscribers- drawings, videos, and sample chapters of novels.

Most of the things he reviews sound/look excellent, a couple sound awful (and it's hilarious watching him try to "polite Englishman" his way through the crap).

Language warning.

Also, Arachne and Asteriktos, I'm guessing that you two in particular will love Dom's other videos. He specializes in comparing movies based on books to their source material.

Amazing! Antiochian Orthodox Brazilians have this firework custom too. Apparently they used to take guns to church and shoot up, but the government started to get a bit onto them for that and they switched to something safer. It seems to be still a thing in their homeland, though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1aQKTqVpeY

In Serbia there is gun shooting too. In Poland Catholic and (less) Orthodox use petards, so it's more about noise than light ;)

No, they're something festal, also used in some dances.

This could also be cross posted to "Things that Cheer you Up"- I really enjoy when a new Terrible Writing Advice video comes out.

I'm also glad that JP started linking in the video descriptions to his honest thoughts on the subjects.

Just started watching my first Jim Sterling video in quite some time. When did he change his theme song back to "Born Depressed?"

Can't say I mind (though I did also like "Stress"), but I hope the fans didn't hound him into doing it.

The one here:

http://www.orthodoxchristianity.net/forum/index.php/topic,72154.0.html

This thread had more serious vids posted in it, so when that other one started I began to post the more frivolous vids in the new one instead of here.
