Twice every year, hundreds of thousands of starling gather in the marsh outside the city of Tønder in southern Jutland. In the hours just after sunset the birds gather in large flocks and form huge formations on the sky. Sometimes the flocks have been to big that they have covered the sunset hence the name "Sort Sol" (black sun) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfoeFzCWrDE&feature=related

Ok, now having actually seen more than a still of it lol... Would it have killed them to show Jesus for more than 2.5 nanoseconds? I assume a monk would never say he has no family. Even if he's an orphan (and taking into account Brendan's strained relationship with his uncle), he'd still count the brothers as his family. I don't get what the "Eye of Crom Crúaich" was all about. I don't mind a bit of syncretism with my coffee, but then there's just being weird. Why does Aiden look like George Carlin? Talk about an imagery clash lol... I didn't know the Vikings were literally demons. Thanks, movie. Somewhere, Frank Miller is giggling like a schoolgirl... I'm guessing the Fathers would frown on so much praise of the imagination, especially in the context of illuminating a copy of the Gospels. The rest of it was stunning though.

I don't think the movie was made to be specifically christian, I mean, one of the main characters is an aisling. I assume a monk would never say he has no family. Even if he's an orphan (and taking into account Brendan's strained relationship with his uncle), he'd still count the brothers as his family.
I think he is talking about his biological family I don't get what the "Eye of Crom Crúaich" was all about. I don't mind a bit of syncretism with my coffee, but then there's just being weird.
Crom Crúaich is a celtic god often connected with human sacrifice. In the movie they are using its eye as a sort of magnifying glass with which they are able to paint the small details in the book. As far as syncretism is concerned, we must remember again that the people who made the movie probably didn't intent it to be a particulary christian film. Why does Aiden look like George Carlin? Talk about an imagery clash lol...
Again, this is just fiction. The real saint Aiden didn't even live in this time period. Personally, I like it because of the amazing animation style.

I thought this was beautiful. GO HOPE Goes to Egypt The Chicago based charity group 'Greek Orthodox Helping Other People Everywhere' (GO HOPE) went to Egypt in August of 2011 to help the poverty stricken Christians living there. With the the material and morale support of Orthodox Christians in America, GO HOPE visited several poverty row orphanages, and families, bringing them some love, and various necessities. http://www.hotca.org/videos/326-go-hope-goes-to-egypt
