After being introduced to cringy C-List children's entertainer Tim Noah via the Cinema Snob, I'm finding that... he's actually not a bad singer-songwriter!

I'm with the camp of 13 million Americans that believe politicians are, or are controlled by, Reptilians. I think only monks can solve this problem. It doesn't seem right that they prefer to ignore it.

A weird/funny anecdote from Chuggaaconroy. Apparently his subconscious made up a restaurant that he repeatedly dreamt of off and on for quite some time. He only recently tried to go eat there in real life only to be surprised that it didn't actually exist.

https://youtu.be/jIF4MsG99dY?t=18m49s Anecdote ends at 20:46.

For last night the the relics of st. Nektarios of Egina (His Hand) came from Greece to my parish - today they're leaving for Greece, earlier they had visited Warsaw metropolitan cathedral and some places in Podlasie region. The biggest Polish Orthodox website, cerkiew.pl, organised a live broadcast from the Akathist in Church Slavonic and Polish and from midnight Liturgy (well, it's some piece, not all) at my parish.

Akathist

Liturgy

On the video from Akathist you can notice me on the right side, in the background.

The gloriously overwrought 90s excess that is the video to Taylor's Dane's Original Sin (the theme to 1994's The Shadow starring Alec Baldwin, which is itself so-bad-it's-amazing).

I wish I knew French or Greek...

In my case CC auto-translates to Italian. Once you have CC on, you can go to settings and auto-translates shows up and gives you the option of translating Italian to whatever language you choose.
If you cannot remember everything, instead of everything, I beg you, remember this without fail, that not to share our own wealth with the poor is theft from the poor and deprivation of their means of life; we do not possess our own wealth but theirs.  If we have this attitude, we will certainly offer our money; and by nourishing Christ in poverty here and laying up great profit hereafter, we will be able to attain the good things which are to come. - St. John Chrysostom

Lindsay Ellis's new video asking whether, in retrospect, Twilight and Stephanie Meyer really deserved a lot of the vitriol they got.

I have to say, she does make some good points.

I've seen that pop up in my 'recommended' thing several times, but I was unsure whether having some basic knowledge of Twilight would be required...? ??? I know about 10 things about the franchise, all of it gleaned from criticisms of it.

Should be fine. As long as you know it was a thing and that people enjoyed bashing it and its creator. She fills in all the relevant details.

Ok, finished watching it, and I'm... slightly more aware now. Having said that, I'm going to resist the temptation of going down the rabbit hole of looking into all the arguments and controversies, cause then that'd turn into my entire Friday night.

The relics of Saint Herman of Alaska. (2006)

Full video.

That was nice, thanks. It's a shame that the hierarchs felt the relics needed to be taken to Kodiak, but I guess it's also understandable. I hope someday they return to the island.

Sanskrit Vs Slavic [in fact, Serbian]
Slavic languages are generally very conservative, and Sanskrit was frozen some four thousand years ago, so similarities can still be spotted more easily than, say, between English and Armenian, but saying Sanskrit is the mother of Indo-European languages is just crazy Hindu nationalism. Even the idea Indo-Europeans come from India has been largely discredited in favour of Ukraine or Turkey, plus Sanskrit already lacks some marks of other Indo-European languages, most notably the distinction between simple velars and labiovelars (for instance, where Latin has c and qu and English has h and wh, Sanskrit only has k).

"May the Lord our God remember in His kingdom all Holy Catholic Apostolic Church, which heralds the Word of Truth and fearlessly offers and distributes the Holy Oblation despite human deficiencies and persecutions moved by the powers of this world, in all time and unto the ages of ages."

Anyhow when God was asked he said Eastern Orthodox is true Church and not Catholic Church. So come home and enjoy.

I've linked it rather for fun and some curiosity ;)

Even the idea Indo-Europeans come from India has been largely discredited in favour of Ukraine or Turkey,
I was taught during my half year Indology studies that there were indeed some groups from the steppes that come to India, and if I'm not mistaken, some other members of these groups chose some parts of Europe.

plus Sanskrit already lacks some marks of other Indo-European languages, most notably the distinction between simple velars and labiovelars (for instance, where Latin has c and qu and English has h and wh, Sanskrit only has k).
I'm not sure about it; I remember that sanksrit has quite a lot of consonants (but maybe not so much as Hindi, that because of some words borrowed from Arabic has to have them more, I think); and maybe generally the pronunciation over the centuries has been being simplified and unified, sometiems the opposite process happen too.  So, I woudln't say that's a proof for something.
Pray for persecuted Christians, especially in Serbian Kosovo and Raška, Egypt and Syria
