I was trying to modify one of my posts, and I accidentally clicked on "report to the moderator." I got this nice little message. An Error Has Occurred!
You can't report your own post to the moderator, that doesn't make sense! Now, you are making a very gross assumption. What if I drunk posted? What if I wanted to police myself?  What if I am reporting myself because I am behaving badly on the board? What if I accidentally copy and pasted one of my intel reports on my post and I could no longer modify it (Oops, can't reveal gov't plans for declaring war on East Timor here!)? I think that I should have a choice to report myself!  Just kidding, mods. I thought the message was pretty funny. |

On a semi-serious note, you could always message the moderator in charge of that board/thread with a link to the post that you would want moderated. |

While I have not clicked "Report to moderator" yet, I have accidentally clicked QUOTE instead of EDIT when trying to edit my post which has resulted in a double post. I have noticed quite a few others doing the same thing.

Yeah, I thought so. Nothing y'all can't erase! I think... Actually as a rule of thumb we don't delete posts. To Quote FrChris: This is the correct position. Why have we adopted it? 1. In the past we have had some issues in our database with deleting posts, as well as accounts. 2. Once people know that what they write will be forever a witness to their thoughts and attitudes causes people to be more careful about what they put in print. |

What's even worse--and this can only happen to a moderator, since only a moderator can modify another person's posts--is when I want to QUOTE someone's post and end up clicking the MODIFY button instead. Believe me, that has happened while I was serving as a moderator on another forum, but what was far worse was accidentally editing the Admin's post instead of quoting him on the first day of mod duties. What a way to start! Now why isn't that MODIFY button painted in a bright red? Then we can truly say, "Do not touch that RED button." |
