Tony Iommi, guitarist of U.K. metal legends Black Sabbath, has learned that he has lymphoma. Iommi posted a statement on his website, in which he thanked the fans for their plentiful expressions of support.

From the article:

"I just want to say how overwhelmed I am with all your messages of support, thank you so much," it read.

The message said: "It's not what I wanted for Christmas, that's for sure, but now I can't wait for the test results to come in and get going with the treatment.

Greetings in that Divine and Most Precious Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

God Bless and Be with Tony!!  There is no other man in mainstream music more consistently dedicated to the cross.  He was told early on in his career that he was cursed by a witch but as long as he had the cross around he'd be safe, and you will NEVER see a photograph of Tony Iommi without a cross across over 40 years!

That brother has some serious musical talent and an even better heart, my prayers are with him for sure  Embarrassed

Iommi contributed so much to the sound of modern hard rock and heavy metal including the concept of detuning (due to his tendons being cut in a factory accident).  I wouldn't classify him as one of those virtuoso guitarists like Eddie van Halen or Yngwie Malmsteen, but the guy has some great licks and is a great song writer.
