Orthodox faction leaders meet CM

PTI[ TUESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2002 09:55:58 PM ]

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Leaders of high-power committee of orthodox faction of
the Malankara church on Tuesday urged Kerala Chief Minister A K Antony to
implement the Supreme Court order in the Malankara Church dispute case.

After meeting Antony, committee president Fr George told reporters that
there was no need to give an ultimatum to the government to implement the
court order.
Committee would give time to the government for carrying out the order, he
said, adding during the meeting the only condition put forward was the
implementation of the court order. Supreme Court passed an order to resolve
the dispute and it was government's duty to implement it, he said.

However, he made it clear that the indefinite fast started by two of its
Metropolitans at the Catholicate Centre in Kollenchery yesterday in support
of their demand would not be called off. It would end only when the Chief
Minister took steps to resolve the dispute.
The two Metropolitans undertaking the fast are Thomas Mar Athanasius and
Mathews Mar Sevarious of the Kandanad Dioceses (east and west).

Committee secretary Dr Alexander Karakkel and committee members B C
Abraham, Thomas Kuthiravattom, Thomas T John, were also among those met the
chief minister.

For several decades, the orthodox and Patriarch factions of the Malankara
church had been locked in faction feud and legal disputes over the control
of churches and various properties under the malankara church.

Of late, the feud had spilled over to the streets creating law and problem
in some parts of the state.

Oh Lord, Save thy people and bless thine inheritance.
Grant victory to the Orthodox Christians over their adversaries.
And by virtue of thy Cross preserve thy habitation.

I agree, Remie.  It's just another aspect of what is a very discouraging crisis in the Church in India.
Mor has an open appeal. This we knew already.

Mor suffers from Invincible Ignorance and is guaranteed salvation according to the Roman Catholic Church.
