Prayer Before Communion
« on: April 01, 2011, 05:46:41 PM »
Anyone know the source of this pre-communion prayer?

++++++++++++++++++++

Almighty and ever-living God,
I approach the sacrament
of your only-begotten Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ.
I come sick to the doctor of life,
unclean to the fountain of mercy,
blind to the radiance of eternal light,
and poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth.
Therefore, I implore the abundance of Your measureless bounty
that You would vouchsafe to heal my infirmity,
wash my uncleanness,
enlighten my blindness,
enrich my poverty and clothe my nakedness,
that I may receive the Bread of Angels,
the King of kings, the Lord of lords
with such reverence and humility,
with such sorrow and devotion,
with such purity and faith,
with such purpose and intention
as may be profitable to my soul's salvation...

Seems to be the Prayer of saint Thomas Aquinas.

Conquer evil men by your gentle kindness, and make zealous men wonder at your goodness. Put the lover of legality to shame by your compassion. With the afflicted be afflicted in mind. Love all men, but keep distant from all men.

I did.   ;D

I figured somebody would.  But not so fast... :laugh:

It's not quite the prayer one might expect from a scholastic.

It's not quite the prayer one might expect from a scholastic.
He did repent before his death.

Btw, I came across in connection with the WRO before, so I didn't need to google.
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

You need to read his biography and not just the cliff notes.
