Man sentenced for crash that killed 12-year-oldMatthew Frank, 20, will serve less than two years in jail for causing the 2008 auto accident that killed 12-year-old Tia Wright and severely injured three others. After a tearful 90-minute sentencing hearing today, Allegheny County Judge Jeffrey A. Manning sentenced Mr. Frank to anywhere from one year minus one day, to two years minus one day for aggravated assault while driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, driving under the influence, speeding and reckless driving. He also imposed eight years of probation, a $2,500 fine, and payment of costs of prosecution...

There is no purgatory. But, have no fear, for the Lord stated that vengeance is His. He will deal with the wrong doers in His way, in His time. As for us, whom of us knows....maybe, this man is truly repentant. If you read the article, it stated he has a brain tumor, and maybe that was impairing his thinking and was feeding his drinking addiction. He says he's a changed man. I wish to believe so....however, I know that while I can be fooled, nobody will ever fool the Lord. Lord, have mercy on all involved, and ease everyone's pain.

Of course there is purgation and it is meant to suit just these kinds of circumstances that we cannot "fix" on our own. The devastation our sins and errors cause are so far reaching in God's providence that we cannot begin to know where to begin or end. So I am happy to know that as I begin my eternity, I can participate sufficiently in the divine life to begin to reconcile the sins and errors of my life. What a horrible thing to have to watch from a distance without being able to say I am sorry or know what good God will make out of my evil and weak thoughts, words and deeds!! M.

driving under the influence Automatic permanent revoke of driver's license, in my world. We should accept his repentance if he truly has, but the privilege to drive should be removed, in the interest of public safety, period. To drive under the influence proves a person doesn't possess the judgment required to safely pilot a 2000-pound vehicle down the road at 70 mph. With family in the law enforcement realm, I've heard far too many stories of police having to scrape human brains off the asphalt. In middle school, my best friend's parents were also killed by a drunk driver. Society has too much tolerance for unsafe drivers, and it costs lives. At minimum they should never be allowed to drive a car again.

That's why, realizing there is no purgatory, and no way to reconcile your deeds once you are dead, that we are to live accordingly, here and now. However, this will get us completely off topic...and has been discussed in other places. I agree with Bogdan, his driving privileges should be revoked, and he should be closely monitored for more than the two years time.

There is no way to reconcile them here or there. But there is a way [theosis] to participate in the ongoing redemption of the world and that is what I was talking about. Just using a name for it that you do not like.

You realize that's what eight years of probation is, right? Probation is not "just don't get in trouble for a while and you're okay." It's a thoroughly invasive monitoring of one's life, which in this case would probably involve periodic urinalysis, ignition interlock on his car (when he regains his license), counseling, home visits and inspections, and a page or two of small print restrictions and conditions.

Since he has taken a life he should give a life. I don' think he should be executed because while what he did was irresponsible to the extreme, it was not done with malicious intent. I also don't think he should be staying in prison living off the taxpayers for this time but should be put to work to the benefit of the family. Money will never compensate someone for the loss of a loved one, but taking away his freedom for a decade and forcing him to pay his own way will do more than prison would.
If he is repentant than my God have mercy on him. May he comfort the family, and have mercy on the soul of the little girl. May her sufferings be over.

It is an education process for me as I learn about the psychology of spiritual apostasy. And others get the benefit of perhaps hearing righteousness for the first time.
Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.

I suspect Abraham Lincoln and all those who worked for abolition of slavery will spin in their graves over this one.

Being how this was something of a specialty of mine in another life, I can tell you true that Good Ole Abe didn't give a rats rump about slaves...except as commodities and pawns in a much much bigger game.

The Civil Wart being of interest to me, I think that Abe Lincoln cared more bout stopping the preservation of the Union and stopping the spread of slavery than emancipating the slaves. But, he still cared.
