Bible readings according to the liturgical calendar
« on: June 25, 2007, 07:58:17 PM »
I just discovered this:

http://www.armenianorthodoxchurch.org/v15/index.htm

Are there any other Church calendars on line with Bible readings?

Salpy, oca.org has a daily calendar. On the middle of the front page, you'll find references. Click on these and you'll be taken to the full text.

The COC has an electronic version of its Katamarous (known as the E-katamarous) that you can install on your computer. Once installed you'll find it synchronised to the calendar set on your computer. In addition to providing all the daily readings (Matins, DL, and Vespers), it has the following features:

1) It notifies you of whether the day coincides with a season or Feast of the Church and whether or not that day falls within a fasting period.
2) It contains the entire Bible, including the Deuterocanonical texts, as well as convenient Bible search and index functions.
3) It notifies you of the Synaxarium entry for the day, and provides you with the entire entry to read.
4) It provides you with an Icon for the Saint being commemorated, according to the Synaxarium, on that particular day.
5) It holds a collection of electronic Icons that you can save to your PC.

It can be purchased here: http://www.agape-bookstore.com/product_info.php?products_id=6089

For a free online katamarous (i.e. to simply view, online, the Scriptural readings for the day according to the Liturgical calendar of the COC), see here: http://www.copticchurch.net/classes/getLectionary.php

Wow, that's a really great idea. I would get it, but the calendar wouldn't be the same (I'm OCA, New Calendarist).

Yes, it's very high tech and underscores how cutting edge the Coptic Church is when it comes to using modern technology to make age old tradition available to the people.  They are very ahead of the other OO Churches in this regard.

Does anyone know if there are any on line calendars for the Ethiopian or Syrian Churches?

There is a program called Menologion 3.0 which gives you the Bible readings, troparia/kontakia, lives of saints, relevant icons for each day, as well as Patristic sermons for certain feasts. It also tells you which foods are permitted if it is a fasting day.

You can chose whether you want it to coincide with the traditional Orthodox calendar, or the new one.

There is also another Menologion available for Julian calendar and Old Calendarist parishes if one wishes to embed these actively in a webpage:

(Apologies for the non-Oriental contribution)
