Hanging icons
« on: May 16, 2004, 10:29:14 PM »
I recently purchased a small icon of Sts. Peter and Paul on Ebay.  I like the icon, but there is one problem: there's no hole in the back for hanging it on a nail.

The icon is roughly 4 inches by 6 inches and is mounted on wood that is about a quarter inch thick.

I'd like to hang it on the wall in my icon corner, but I can't think of a good way to get it to hang.  Drilling a hole in the back doesn't seem like a great idea.  Does anyone have any suggestions and/or experience with this?

Thanks,
Jason

How about one of those picture hanging hooks you can get in an appliance store?  It has a loop on top and littlenail like indentations that go in the wood.  I've have some of my Icons on such hooks.

Orthodoc's suggestion is probably the best, I've also seen high strength velcro used effectively, as strange as it sounds.

BTW, what vendor did you buy from? I sometimes buy Icons off of ebay when I have money and knowing which vendors sell good products helps.

I only have two of my Icons hanging. One on a nail, and one came with a chain. Most of them just stand on their own.

many of my Icons are taped to the wall because I am too poor to afford real ones.

Joe, I highly recommend purchasing from eBay seller "mytsarina".

I have purchased from her several times and have always been pleased with my purchases. One time I received an icon and the post office had done it's worst while they were handling it, and she replaced it for me at no cost.

She always has a wide selection of icons, some are prints mounted on wood - originating from Sorfino in Russia, and most recently she has added icons from Greece as well.

She also has icons that are handwritten by nuns in Kiev, which are beautiful!

In Christ,
Aaron

I have actually purchased from her on three occasions.  I agree a great vendor! (and cheap too!)

If you would like, you could drop me a PM with your address, and I could in the next couple of weeks send you some little Icon cards? :)

David,

Thanks for the correction.  :)

Unfortunately, eBay doesn't pay any mind to cases in user's names.

I am glad to hear that you also had positive experiences purchasing from her. If I had more spare cash I could give her some more business.  :P

I know what you are saying.  I gave almost all my real Icons away as gifts over the years, and now that I am going on my fifth straight month of unemployment after comign after a 2 week temp job that I got after 9 straight months of unemployment, I don't have any money with which I can use to buy Icons.
