Churches I have visited recently
« on: March 20, 2011, 03:10:21 PM »
I want to create a thread with a list of the Churches visited by the users recently. I ask you to simply list the Church/es you have just visited with brief notes, links to their sites or websites.

So for the fortnight I have visited:

St. Gregory Peradze Mission in Warsaw
All Saints Church in Białystok
Protection of the Theotokos (the basement Church in the St. George Parish) in Białystok

Assumption of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church  http://www.assumptioncathedral.org/

Did you attend the pan-orthodox vespers there last week? Truly an amazing building.

I've been going to liturgy at All Saints of Russia www.rocadenver.org
It is very Russian and I feel a bit out of place but I like how traditional it is and Fr. Michael is a nice fellow.

yes, I did.  it is very beautiful, but doesn't have that snug family feel that smaller Churches (such as St. Michael's) has.  the first time I was there, I fell over trying to look at all of the saints depicted on the ceiling  :D

do they do pan-Orthodox vespers at All Saints?  it's a Church I'm dying to visit.

Yeah I agree. I wouldn't want to attend there regularly but its nice to visit.

Tonight there is one at Holy Transfiguration (I70 & I25) http://www.transfigcathedral.org  and I believe there is gonna be one at All Saints in the next few weeks. I'm pretty sure they're making the rounds to all the churches in the metro area.

Assumption is fantastic, yes it doesn't have that family atmosphere probably because the parish is quite large. Although the priests there are living icons of Christ, beautiful people and I loved hearing His Eminence Isaiah's homily today regarding the God Orthodoxy beleives in, one of mercy and not of wrath. It was a good contemplation on the articles that have been published by the secular media regarding God and the Japanese Tsunami.

Trevor and CBGardner when is that last time you've been to the Cathedral? Do you plan on attending again soon?

I went after the pan-ortho vespers last week but I'm not sure when I'll visit next.

EDIT: Pardon me I did not attend the vespers, but visited the church afterwards

St. Michael Church in Stary Kornin

Very beautiful church. I love the bright blue color!  :)

It's popular in that area to paint Churches blue, especially the ones dedicated to Theotokos.

I don't get around too much. I've recently just been to the local area churches, those being:

St. Athanasius Orthodox Church - my home parish
St. Andrew Antiochian Orthodox Church
Panagia Pantovasilissa Greek Orthodox Church

And this weekend, I will be going to St. Michael's Antiochian Orthodox Church for a one-day retreat with Fr. Meletios Webber.

I had a chance to visit this Church last week while I was in North Carolina.  Wonderful people, and I just loved Fr. Alexandr, even though I could not understand any Russian.  The reader Sasa brought me to tears with his beautiful voice singing the hymns of the Church during Vigil and Liturgy, and I enjoyed serving with their altar server who was the only other native English speaker other than me.  The beauty of following the services exactly is that one does not have to know the language to know the services.  Very uplifting experience!
I would be happy to agree with you, but then both of us would be wrong.

A very beautiful building, even just from outside.

Saint Virgin Mary's COC, also known as the Hanging Church in Cairo. I have so many photos of the COCs in Egypt from my last visit.
