Well, since I am not married, having children is out of the question. However, I understand your reservation of bringing new innocent life into this corrupt world. This world has never been "perfect", and corruption has always existed in some degree. Where would I be if my ancestors decided not to reproduce due to the hardships they were facing at the time. I simply wouldn't be. I am glad to be here. I wouldn't deny someone the chance of experiencing this life.

Psalm 126:3-5 (SAAS) "Behold, children are the Lord's inheritance; The fruit of the womb His reward. Like arrows in the hand of a mighty one, So are the children of those who were outcasts. Blessed is the man who shall fulfill his desire with them; They shall not be ashamed, when they speak to their enemies at the gate."
My wife and I stopped with two just over thirty years ago. We have wondered if that was the right choice. It would take a miracle of Biblical proportions to change that now! However, I am glad to have two grandchildren and one more on the way.

Me personally, I don't think it is for me. I'm not a fan, however, of the argument that the world is too corrupt. Like LizaS says, the world is always corrupt and all the more reason to bring someone in who you can teach to be a trumpeter of the Lord.

I haven't really discerned yet whether I as an individual am even qualified to raise children. I'm rather skeptical of that prospect. If I ever do, however, I would be mostly inclined to adopt children rather than have any of my own given how many needy children already exist in the world. It seems kind of selfish to me to have one's own children at their expense.

Im all for children, i would love to have a child but as of yet we havent been blessed with a live one. I can understand the argument about there already being so many children that nead food, or a home, but not getting one yourself is probably something one would regret, not now but when its to late and its not possible any longer. The best way to help those children i think is to adopt, or help fund food and shelter.

We have 4 with a 5th expected next fall. The time is somewhat dark currently. The world always struggles with sin. If we were to stop having children because the world is evil then we wouldn't exactly be helping the situation. Children can help shape the future. That means have raising Godly children can actually turn the tide of sin/darkness. Or at least that is how I see it.

There is a man in Hungary called Erno Lukacs who is a billionaire, has been married for 45 years and has 20 children, 14 daughters and 6 sons, with one woman. He has worked all his life on his farm, his wife kept 16 cows while being pregnant. She had been pregnant for 25 years non-stop. He has built all of his children houses. Truly a self-made man. He had to fight with the social services, because he never accepted help from the government for his family. Of course, a billionaire in Hungarian forints. That is about 5,100,000 US dollars according to today's exchange rate.

I was at a conference last week were the Key Note Speaker was Dr. Stephen Mosher who is a well respected demographer.
It is imperative that people in the advanced nations have more children. Europe, Japan and most notelably China are in trouble. They are no where near population replacement rates and we can look foward to their collapse.
For example, China has had a forced one child per family rule for a long time now. The result is an unsustainable social structure, There will be one male to support wife, family, his parents, her parents and both their grandparents.
So you can stop worrying about a rising China. They're done.... Same with Japan. No young people. And the math of the situation is that once you are on a downward slide of depopulation, it is very hard to turn around. The Japanese will need to start having five or six kids per family right away.. Not going to happen.
Russia is a little better off. Dr. Mosher is going to meet with Government officials there in a couple of months. They are considering allowing families who have babies to live tax free. He is also meeting with the Patriarch.
The USA is in decent shape. Predictions of our demise were premature.
The average age in Egypt is around 25. Keep a weather eye on the Moslems who have out babied us.

I guess every generation thought that, though.

But if you adopt, the child is already in this world. You'd just be giving them a chance to be something in this world.

I agree. When I meant either way, I meant "whether we want to adopt or not."
We talked about it and plan to adopt one or two children in addition to the children we will have (we're still not sure about US vs other countries...I'm leaning toward the US since he used to work in the national pro-life movement, but we will be happy either way). Let God's will be done!

^Eh, not painful enough to make me stop doing it (and I haven't ever had pain medications during deliveries). The idiom that it is akin to pushing a watermelon out your nostril is more than an overstatement. And women have a magical ability to "forget" how painful it was pretty soon after giving birth. I suppose this would be like a man forgetting how painful 7 star thai can be. The flavor makes the future pain worth it. The pain of delivery is eclipsed by the resulting child, sort of a reverse of the aforementioned thai situation, only WAY better.

Wait, I didn't realize I had already posted here... A lot of people assume that we will stop having children now, but -- while we don't have plans one way or the other -- that is unlikely. I do not think these times are any worse than the rest of history.

I see children as a complete blessing and that's how God intended for it to be. I have 5 children.
I can't imagine life without any of them. They are fantastic and makes my wife and I feel the completeness of God's plan.
The world follows paths of Eugenics, and there is a lot of propaganda out there about kids being "too hard", "too expensive". etc.
They are not easy, but they are the most rewarding thing ever.
