Malankar Orthodox Liturgical Music these?
« on: May 14, 2004, 01:45:52 AM »
Dear friends (Mor Ephrem in particular)  :)

I was trying to find liturgical music of the Syriac Orthodox tradition in India and I found these MP3 files.

Some Armenian told me that many Oriental Christians of both Catholic and Orthodox affiliations have adopted some abuses from the modern Catholic mass, but these mp3 files em too radical to be real.

Any opinions?

I edited the question to rid it of multiple question marks.  Please only one per question :)

Sounds like modern Indian music. Bollywood mixed with traditional bhajana sounds- mrdanga, kartalas and all. Ha....

The actual music itself is Indian chant; the instruments, though, are another thing.  Most parishes don't use them, but sometimes the bigger ones will for important festivals and what not.  It can be done poorly (I've heard it), but it can also be done very well (I've heard it).  If it doesn't cost too much to have a traditional orchestra play, I'd like to hire one in the future for a gig or two.
