Why is Cheburashka in a church???

He's a mascot of the Russian Olympics team.

So they let mascots in churches? How is this better than a "clown mass"?

What is your problem? People convert to Orthodoxy because they're tired of seeing churches treated like auditoriums. But forget that, let's just mock someone with a serious concern.

For what it's worth, I agree with William.

Forget the fact that it's a silly clown...who isn't there to worship God.  If the person wearing the costume wished to pray..then they are also breaking the rules, by not dressing modestly, but, calling undue attention to themselves, and distracting others' attention from God.

Furthermore, this is not a case of prayerful attention...it is a propaganda move to advertise the Olympics.

How is this different than having someone come inside the church and do some odd demonstration to further their own cause?  Only difference is that the mascot is pushing Russian government interests....as in trying to get everyone on the bandwagon for the upcoming Olympics.

The rules of morality taught by the Church.  Dressing like a clown is no different than a woman wearing a revealing dress....because both distract the other people from prayer.

...and I certainly wasn't "judging" anyone...simply agreeing that William had a point.
