:)  Thanks!  I took the photo this last Sunday at the Pan-Orthodox Vespers!

This icon was located in an obscure nook which I happened upon while exploring.

I love to come early and stay late!

Here is the church in Arusha. it's a pretty big city so I won't put my expectations too high

;D  That's MY church!  Michigan, U.S.A!  St. Mary the Protectress, of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the U.S.A!

I took the photo during Saturday's Vespers.

Our Bishop Daniel was visiting for Palm Sunday weekend.

....as you can see we have so many people attend our Vespers service that there's almost no room to move!   :P

But you see the beauty, and you capture it in such a beautiful way. Only a true artist with a beautiful soul can do such a thing.

This is my favorite painting by my father, which he left to me. He painted merely as a hobby, but I think his art was fantastic. This is a quote of his that discusses his approach to watercolor painting. My Papa was man of great depth, but it was difficult to peel back the layers. I think his love for art and music enabled his soul to breathe and revealed the beauty of his heart. I miss him so much already.

"When you face a sheet of watercolor paper - plain and white - it frightens you knowing that you wish to create something on it that others will enjoy. Once you dip the brush into the water and paint and then begin to apply it to the paper, it totally absorbs you. The only other thing I have done which accomplished the same feeling was a solo flight in an airplane. When you paint, start with a subject you really like- for example, a flower, a barn, mountains. Paint from the actual subject or from a photograph. Mix colors to get unusual effects. Try to evoke a feeling, because a photograph can do a better job than an artist in getting the actual details correct. The reason Van Gogh is my favorite artist is because he evokes feelings." -Freddie Wood- (My father)

Don't be so cynical. The film work of Tom Hanks is filled with Orthodox messages...

Money Pit - Decries consumerism and materialism, deals with attachment and betrayal in relationships

Big - Shows us how easily we can be misled by assumptions, and also teaches us to accept who we are, and not dream so much of who we want to be

Castaway - Is there a greater examination of the plight of the modern American? Adrift and lonely, with our hopes all too often mirages. Yet we keep going!

And so on...
