This is my favorite painting by my father, which he left to me. He painted merely as a hobby, but I think his art was fantastic. This is a quote of his that discusses his approach to watercolor painting. My Papa was man of great depth, but it was difficult to peel back the layers. I think his love for art and music enabled his soul to breathe and revealed the beauty of his heart. I miss him so much already.
"When you face a sheet of watercolor paper - plain and white - it frightens you knowing that you wish to create something on it that others will enjoy. Once you dip the brush into the water and paint and then begin to apply it to the paper, it totally absorbs you. The only other thing I have done which accomplished the same feeling was a solo flight in an airplane. When you paint, start with a subject you really like- for example, a flower, a barn, mountains. Paint from the actual subject or from a photograph. Mix colors to get unusual effects. Try to evoke a feeling, because a photograph can do a better job than an artist in getting the actual details correct. The reason Van Gogh is my favorite artist is because he evokes feelings." -Freddie Wood- (My father)
