Ivan Savvidi, Russian oligarch and president of major Greek football team PAOK, entered the field armed to have a polite conversation with the ref about an anulled goal.

"May the Lord our God remember in His kingdom all Holy Catholic Apostolic Church, which heralds the Word of Truth and fearlessly offers and distributes the Holy Oblation despite human deficiencies and persecutions moved by the powers of this world, in all time and unto the ages of ages."

Anyhow when God was asked he said Eastern Orthodox is true Church and not Catholic Church. So come home and enjoy.

Happens all the time there, yep. Florida also has a growing wild population of giant Asian pythons descended from the ones that escaped when an exotic pet warehouse was damaged by Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

HOW IS THIS FROM 1893??

It looks like a homemade poster for an indie rock band in the 90s!

Also, I had no idea that song was so old.

Wow! I always assumed it was mid 20th century. The version I recall hearing mentioned the atom bomb, I think.

but with brackets rather than parenthesis, and whatever height/width seems best. Or just 'quote' this post and look at the following:

You sure you're not a Finn?

I'm sure. But I see that we (I mean Balkan people) and Finns can understand each other pretty well. So maybe I should look for a husband among Orthodox Finns, especially that like blond men with light eyes (sure, there are some exceptions).

The Balkan female must be tiny.

No doubt, we tend to be slim, at least until having reached our 50s. Maybe that's because most of the Balkans is Orthodox so even if maybe in other areas people don't follow so much the faith, but regarding fasting - quite a lot.

What's blonde by Polish standards? Most Finns have what I would call light brown* hair but what might be called blonde by some other standards. As for eyes, IIRC the most common eye colour is green. If that's your criteria maybe you really should move here.  :P

*similar to this. No idea who's in the picture though.

Anyone in Brazil can be blonde. In some regions blondes are so odd and foreign that people will call any blonde regardless of origins a Galician.

For me that's blonde!
Really, perfect, I lvoe green eyes! I find (usually, not always) dark eyes dull, without mystery, plain. While light eyes - espeially green ones - are... hm, vivid, deep.
I've never been to Filnad, so, maybe if I earn enough money, I'll organise a trip for myself across Orthodox parishes in your country, haha.

Edit: bu the problem is, as you said in anotehr thread, taht you don't talk to each other at parties... So no idea, how to get a possiblity to start talking with an interesting Orthodox Finn.

I am called 'alemão' usually, but where I live being blond is not that rare, because of northern italian immigration, it is not as common as in Santa Catarina, but it is still usual enough for people not considering it foreign or exotic.

^^ one of the most venerated icons by Polish Orthodox and Polish Catholics, by Lithuanian Catholics and Polish Orthodox. It's mentioend even in a poem that every Polish child has to learn at school (sometimes even 2 times, once in the primary and once in the secondary)

I have a very decent print icon of from a shop (selling Orthodox and Catholic stuff) just prior to the Brama Ostrobramska :) It was nice to see pepole kneeling or making cross starting from right or from left, while they were passing under it.

In fact it's Invocation of Pan Tadeusz by Adam Mickiewicz. I'vee seen in the Internet English translations, but it does not give the same feelings, rythm and rhymes as the Polish original"

LITHUANIA, my country, thou art like health;
how much thou shouldst be prized only he can learn who has
lost thee. To-day thy beauty in all its splendour I see
and describe, for I yearn for thee.
Holy Virgin, who protectest bright Czenstochowa
and shinest above the Ostra Gate in Wilno! Thou
who dost shelter the castle of Nowogrodek with its
faithful folk As by miracle thou didst restore me to
health in my childhood when, offered by my weeping
mother to thy protection, I raised my dead eyelids, and
could straightway walk to the threshold of thy shrine
to thank God for the life returned me so by miracle
thou wilt return us to the bosom of our country. Mean-
while bear my grief-stricken soul to those wooded hills,
to those green meadows stretched far and wide along
the blue Niemen ; to those fields painted with various
grain, gilded with wheat, silvered with rye ; where
grows the amber mustard, the buckwheat white as
snow, where the clover glows with a maiden's blush,
where all is girdled as with a ribbon by a strip of green
turf on which here and there rest quiet pear-trees.

I presume you're not counting Perkele as a saint.

Cresset Procession, traditional Holy Thursday celebration in Goiás, Brazil, staging the prison of Christ. Their clothes are reconstruction of medieval penance vestments, carrying rich symbolism now unfortunately usurped by the KKK.

These clothes were used by penitents, so in extension they started to be associated to ghosts (since they would in the beginning be purgatorial manifestations). The KKK adopted it as tribute to the ghosts of Confederate soldiers killed in battle.

Right. But what did they mean to the original penitents who wore them?

It was drawn from the clothes worn by criminals for execution, so groups in the Iberian Peninsula know as nazarenos started wearing them as penance. I believe the videoclip from Rosenrot by Rammstein stages a burning with such vestments.

Ah, ok.

Does anybody know why the hoods are pointed or what the different colors signify?

No idea if there's some particular meaning, the original intent was humiliation. It does look stupid if you completely abstract it from the solemn meaning.
