Just when you thought the world couldn't get any crazier...

Ugandan Old Believers:

Were they evangelized by Old Believers or did they start out as Canonical?
They were evangelized.

I'm impressed that such a small group as the Old Believers has the ability (and the drive) to do missions! Perhaps this puts wealthier churches to shame. I pray that Christ saves many through their efforts.
Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.

Weird. But, shouldn't those Old Believer men all have beards?

Also, if they have 1.5 million normal Orthodox, Uganda needs to send missionaries here, not vice versa.  ;)
Wishing to grant pardon for ancient debts, he who cancels the debts of all people came himself and dwelt among those who were estranged from his divine grace; and tearing apart the record of sin, he hears from everyone: Alleluia.

Me too, seeing how they have become more like the Amish and afraid of outsiders over the last few hundred years. Closer observation also shows this isn't the group under Met. Cornelius who seems to have the biggest Old Believer group in Russia.

They should. Though I'll try and give them the benefit of the doubt that they're new converts.

Dude, I recall reading about something like that actually happening to Roman Catholics in Europe, importing priests from India and Africa.

BTW, in Cabo Verde there's a group loosely similar to the Old Believers, but of Roman Catholic extraction. They fled into wilderness when the Portuguese started sending new priests that presumably would pray the Tridentine mass with the 1920 reforms and stabilished their own communities. They are priestless, at least nowadays, but some leaders can seemingly read Latin and Portuguese, and they all have a very eschatological-driven mind. I recall seeing a short documentary where they would repeatedly say "the Earth is the paradise of the damned". They're called rabelados, which is Cape Verdean for "rebels". There's not much written about them out there, unfortunately.

"May the Lord our God remember in His kingdom all Holy Catholic Apostolic Church, which heralds the Word of Truth and fearlessly offers and distributes the Holy Oblation despite human deficiencies and persecutions moved by the powers of this world, in all time and unto the ages of ages."

"the Earth is the paradise of the damned".

If taken out of context that quote sounds very Gnostic.

Not only in Africa.  The Latin Roman Catholic Diocese in my town has about 10% of its priests imported from Africa.

What the Mickey and Minnie Mouse costumes looked like in 1955 when Disneyland first opened (actually reused Disney on Ice costumes).

Excuse me while I never stop screaming for the rest of my life.

Looks like Bishop Theodore Ghandour has really enjoyed his new diocese.

That’s why there are a dozen or so archbishops of New York.

I should ask Archbishop Chrysostom's opinion on that, but ten years after people dying in a shooting in the cathedral's churchyard (typical Rio), he still seems to enjoy the place. The local nun says the blue sea, white houses and mountainous landscape makes her feel in Greece.

BTW, you could see my neighbourhood from the picture, it's the one with the wharfs. Unfortunately, the beach is useless, it smells like something huge died there a long time ago and no one took it away, but it's an amazing view. The state government says we shouldn't enter the water, but who cares, everything is nice and neat in Rio de Janeiro.

So is his inner elbow the fulcrum there?  He had to start out holding that empty.

Someone took this picture in my university's library. Lovely, I knew toucans existed in Rio's wildlife, but I never saw any outside zoos, parks and the 20th Century Fox animation.

I saw toucans in the wild several times, they make a weird noise that resembles some sort of small engine and fly in pairs most of times.

Jeez, is that common there? The closest I've seen here in Alaska was a motorcycle with a White Nationalist-looking bumper sticker (and I suppose I could have been misreading it, I don't remember exactly what it said). Only saw it once.

And I don't even have a real attic to hide people in...

Funny thing about toucans, they can regulate their own body temperature by adjusting the blood flow in their beaks.

I saw toucans in the wild several times, they make a weird noise that resembles some sort of small engine and fly in pairs most of times.
Wow, in São Paulo? That's the last place in the world I'd expect to see toucans.

Funny thing about toucans, they can regulate their own body temperature by adjusting the blood flow in their beaks.
Awesome, didn't know that.

Christ my God, set my heart on fire with love in You, that in its flame I may love You with all my heart, with all my mind, and with all my soul and with all my strength, and my neighbor as myself, so that by keeping Your commandments I may glorify You the Giver of every good and perfect gift. Amen.

Jeez, is that common there? The closest I've seen here in Alaska was a motorcycle with a White Nationalist-looking bumper sticker (and I suppose I could have been misreading it, I don't remember exactly what it said). Only saw it once.

It's uncommon enough that when people complain about it, it makes the newspaper (online edition anyway); but it's common enough that when you see it you aren't surprised. It varies from place to place though... this is in the Pittsburgh suburb West Mifflin, but I'd bet money the same dude wouldn't try to pull this stuff one neighborhood over in Duquesne.

West Mifflin - "The racial makeup of the borough was 89.64% White, 8.85% African American"
Duquesne - "The racial makeup of the city was 38.92% White, 57.75% African American"
Alexa, what religion should I be a part of?
