We request one with Arabic, English, and Coptic with a Coptic hat

Unless there's something I'm not seeing, I have no problem with it.  Doesn't look offensive at first glance to me

To put it more bluntly, I can't shake the feeling she's giving a sort of 'come hither' look. I'm sure its all perception and nothings really wrong with it, but it still seems suspect.

Yup.

Never heard of this book, what is OCnet's opinion on it?

Definitely worth reading. Some aspects are a little too fundamentalist for my tastes, but there's certainly a lot of valuable material in it all the same. I pretty much feel that away about all of Fr. Seraphim Rose's writings.

A XVI-century painting made by Diego Huanitzin, Aztec ruler of Tenochtitlan converted to Roman Catholicism.

Maybe he was still presented some Pre-Tridentine Spanish art.

I mean, he sure was, but maybe at this point Spanish Catholicism wasn't 100% Romanised?

Before the Trident - I think it's very probable, it was not long time after fullfiling the reconquista, so e.g the Moazarabic rite had a wider presence.

"She" is probably just a model on café press or whatever other "make your own t-shirt" site the thing appears on.  You can probably find the exact same picture of her with the exact same shirt on with different user-made text superimposed.  I'm sure she has no personal stake in the joke whatsoever.

There's a very pleasant Mozarabic-looking church in front of my workplace, FWIW. Its final form isn't really ancient (1808), but parts of it are much older. I can't paste the image right now, but you'll see it if you google "igreja de São José RJ".

I don't think this particular style has survived for much longer except for maybe southern Spain.

It's less Mozarabic than I thought, now that I'm looking more into Mozarabic art. Very curious.

P.S.: It would be cool if these messages could be moved to another topic. I could post some pictures and develop more there, asking for people more into architecture to opine.

YES!!!  Duel to the Death.  That whole fight scene was sick, especially when he cut the ninja's arm off, and the dude just jumped out of his suit and kept it moving like it was nothing.  The duel at the end (Hashimoto vs. Ching Wa) was stellar too.

How about this one?  ;D

Reading the plot, it sounds appropriately bonkers. And it's by Chang Cheh, who hasn't let me down yet.

Part of what impresses me about this film so much is that, for all the zaniness, the ending manages to feel genuinely poignant. A lot of these kung fu movies are quite dark actually.

I agree.  The ending - where they both accept their fate stoically and stare off into the sea awaiting the inevitable - is powerful for me.

But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

The one about Portugal probably works, but they'll really go 100% rage if you ask them whether they speak Spanish.

Reading the plot, it sounds appropriately bonkers. And it's by Chang Cheh, who hasn't let me down yet.

Speaking of Chang Cheh, have you seen Kid with the Golden Arm?

No. I've seen The One-Armed Swordsman and Five Deadly Venoms. I also thought he did Come Drink with Me- that was King Hu- though he did do the sequel Golden Swallow.

The first two are classics, but I've never seen the last two.

Come Drink with Me is definitely a classic. Last I checked, it was on Netflix streaming if you have that. Incidentally, Five Elements Ninjas is on there too and I'm itching to see it when I have a moment.

Vain existence can never exist, for "unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain." (Psalm 127)

If the faith is unchanged and rock solid, then the gates of Hades never prevailed in the end.
