I almost got all the references. I'll go from top to bottom,  Harry Potter, the ABC show, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Hunger Games. I didn't get the "Misbehave" reference, but 7 out of 8 isn't bad.

Edit: I think misbehave is a reference to Firefly because they said in the movie Serenity "I aim to misbehave" hmm, it has to be because it's the same font

Who's the Orthodox guy? I saw Bush had jury duty or something--or at least showed up for it. That'd be a hoot and a half serving with a former president.

Sweet and sour chicken at a Japanese restaurant...how disappointing.

New icons in the side chapel at my church.

In this one, from left to right: St. Constantine, St. Helen, and St. Savas (sorry about the photo angle, the edge of his picture is slightly cut off).

In this one, if I'm reading correctly, St. Irene and St. Markella. Lovely colors in both icons. Even nicer when you see them up close. :)

These were added to the wall in the chapel within the last few weeks. I think we got the same young iconographer who painted the scenes from the life of St. George, whose images are on the side walls of the foyer. He does very good work. :) They took down some little framed icons to make way for the new wall images. I kind of missed the little icons, but the new ones make very nice replacements. :)

I agree, they look beautiful :)  If you remember the name of the iconographer could you post it in this thread? I hope to eventually get some icons by an actual iconographer (well, I guess the reproductions are by actual iconographers, but you know what I mean) :)

I looked up that church, and it turns out, that the pastor was there for 3 years and then had to shut it down because everyone left. lol, I wonder why.

Quote
I went back up to North Carolina, sold my house and land, quit my job and went to Pensacola Bible Institute in 1979. After Graduation in 1982, I asked the Lord where He wanted me to go and the only place that came into my head was Belmont, NC. When we moved back here, Some folks in Charlotte, NC wanted to start a church, so I pastored Bible Believers Baptist Church for three years and shut it down after all the people left. I'm sure I got out of the Lord's will by not trying to keep that church open and I guess I was put on the shelf for a while because of quitting when the Lord didn't tell me to quit.
God bless!

+1.

To be honest, one of the things that made me self-conscious, growing up surrounded by evangelicals was that they always seemed to be much more sure of "where God was leading them" than I was. It was a little intimidating and disconcerting. Why didn't God give me what they all had (or seemed to have)? Maybe God just didn't like me as much? That's what I was thinking at the time.

Holy Saturday and banging bins... must be something about waking the dead.

I bet that night, they burned Judas just like back home in Crete...

The Burning of Judas in Crete was, quite literally, how I was introduced to Orthodox Christianity.  For some of you, this may explain a lot about me...
