Since many of you now know that I'm gay. I have to say one thing. Once upon time I thought G.W.Bush is sexy.

I'm not gay and somebody doesn't?

Just one earth too short to make it a square.

Newly-discovered ‘ring of teeth’ helps determine what common ancestor of moulting animals looked like

A new study of an otherworldly creature from half a billion years ago – a worm-like animal with legs, spikes and a head difficult to distinguish from its tail – has definitively identified its head for the first time, and revealed a previously unknown ring of teeth and a pair of simple eyes. The results, published today in the journal Nature, have helped scientists reconstruct what the common ancestor of everything from tiny roundworms to huge lobsters might have looked like...

Alexander the Great looks quite happy.
Happy shall he be, that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock. Alleluia.

John Alexander Dowie, the founder of Zion, Illinois and a prominent faith healer who influenced Pentecostalism and claimed to be the prophet Elijah (!) in a spiritual sense. Dowie also taught British Israelism. He, like his successor Wilbur Voliva, was a proponent of flat-earth theories.

And to top all that off, he ended up losing a "prayer duel" (mubahala) to Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, an Indian from Punjab who himself claimed to be a prophet, the Messiah (in the likeness of Jesus), and the Mahdi. Dowie had claimed the Christ would destroy the Muslims when he returns, a claim Ahmad obviously found offensive when he became aware of it, so Ahmad challenged Dowie to a "prayer duel" and whoever outlived the other would be considered the winner. Dowie died one year before Ahmad.

While we're on the topic of weird cults, the Agapemonites built this church in Upper Clapton in London. It was since taken over by the Old Catholics and now is used by the Georgian Orthodox Church.

Two of the Agapemonite leaders claimed to be God, and the second (John Hugh Smyth-Pigott) also had his own feud with Mirza Ahmad, who told him he would die if he didn't recant his blasphemous claim. The cult consisted primarily of wealthy unmarried women, many of whom the leaders took as "spiritual brides" (but not really spiritual!)

It still is the Apostles' Fast for those on the Julian Church Calendar.
The memory of God should be treasured in our hearts like the precious pearl mentioned in the Holy Gospel. Our life's goal should be to nurture and contemplate God always within, and never let it depart, for this steadfastness will drive demons away from us. - Paraphrased from St. Philotheus of Sinai

The Lutheran cathedral of Helsinki and a statue of tsar Alexander II. It's somewhat amusing that we still have a statue of a Russian emperor in our capital.
But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
