Battlefield 3, never played it. Are those suppose to be like how modern warfare has customizable banners?

I'm still trying to figure out how this still works... is the boiler in that barrel?

Even though I don't drink, I occasionally think about building a still just for the challenge.

No idea.

The area that picture was taken 70 years ago retained the tradition to this day and is pretty famous for that (and rightly so).

"Minister arrested for moonshining". It would make a nice headline Smiley

'Moonshining' is only a crime if there is an intent to sell, dating back to the Whiskey Rebellion.  'Bootlegging' is the crime of transporting alcohol for sale.

I'm pretty sure I could triple my parish just by building a still and offering free moonshine to anyone who helped (which is legal).  The trick is to get the bishop to agree, or at least not blow a vocal chord when he finds out why the census is so high...

This reminds of some people in my family who would make it. Can't figure out how this would work, but I am sure they would've found a way to make it work if they were desperate enough.

I'm still trying to figure out how this still works... is the boiler in that barrel?

After looking at this set-up, I think I figured it out.

In your picture, Michał, the still take a 90° turn, and so the fire pot is behind the barrel in the foreground.

I've seen a simple one like this in action. It's really fun, especially if you taste as it is being made.

In the last month I've thought about making a separate thread for geeky pics, but then I realized that this whole site is a geek site, so that's sort of unnecessary. Anyway...

Well, according to Father G., a trap.  According to itself, an "ostrich pillow".  If they weren't so expensive, I'd get a few.

Caraiman monastery in Romania which I visited yesterday. It was founded in 1998 by the abbot according to a vision from The Theotokos who showed the tree in middle of the monastery and the cross on the mountain as the setting for it. A wonderful place, a spiritual oasis for tourists. Was conquered immediately by the setting, the first thing that greeted me as I entered -- a coffee machine, and everything that followed including the wisdom of the monks and a great shop where I got the nicest bracelet. If you wish to see more pics I have an album: https://plus.google.com/photos/111626572079212796054/albums/5970166404207803169

The mountains look too eroded to me. Plus, it's winter. The cold air is good for a change, but dead vegetation is no fun.
