Maybe it's because most of Russia IS Orthodox.

Can you imagine seeing this church making its way down the Mississippi?  ....or a tank church rolling down Mainstreet?   Folks would think it's some sort of parade or something.

You have to measure actual need and use of the mini church against the ridicule and actual harm it might do in the eyes of the populace.
Liza, I wouldn't suggest imitation for exactly the reasons you point out here. However, it's the creativity that I find appealing. Protestants are doing some of this already, e.g. Transport for Christ, International. Why aren't we finding ways to get Orthodoxy into more remote areas? A portable chapel of some kind might be useful. You have noticed I'm sure how many people come to OC.net looking for a church that is less than a six (or more) hour drive.

Just about to post when I saw Trisagion's pictures. Thanks. Do you have a location?

I think those pics are from Serbia.  It would be really cool to have something like that in the US, though.

There is an inscription Нижневартовск (Nizhnevartovsk), this is a city in western Siberia.

You actually can eat the little black fruits.

What is this witchcraft?  Huh

merely one of the panoply of 'strange' Brazilian fruits.  Give it a year, it will be added to everything in America soon....much like the prior incarnations of 'healthy Brazilian fruits' of the year, like guaraná and açaí.

Go to the amazon and there are hundreds more strange and uniquely yummy fruits!

We are talking about the Reds at this point.

I've been beleaguered with more than just local sports. Oktoberfest last weekend. A ridiculous display of music this week. The "music fest" is at my feet and Gen-X is old enough to care about diapers and strollers I guess for even grandkids, so the crummy music is now also family friendly which means more cops which means less of a chance that a long time resident might shoot some of these yuppie Johnnies-come-Lateley thus reducing the gentrification happening quickly around here.

The day OTR has higher property value, low crime and a majority of wealthier residents...oh wait it's already here.

Don't you got apartments running for 300k now? All those new up scale restaurants, parks getting renovated..

Hey we can't call this gentrification! This is a renovation!

That picture is totally wrong! Why is he dressed in an epitrachelion while holding both a cross and a gun and leaning against a car. This is not what vestments were designed for, so the guys who did this were commiting sacrilege. Hopefully they realize what they have done and try to undo some of the damage.

They're syrian rebels, those guys had most likely just destroyed a church. I don't think commiting sacrilege is in the top of their guilt-list.

It makes sense to me. Going from Summer to Fall, you are not used to the cold, so 15 degrees feels cold. Going from Winter to Spring, You are used to much colder temperatures, so 15 degrees does not seem as cold.
