^That is something, mina! Who is that saint?

He was our previous Pope, Pope St. Kyrillos VI, who was a wonder-worker.

I see. Do you have any idea when that picture was taken?

Late 90s I believe.  This picture went viral in the Coptic community.

I would be interested to know just where this was taken...

Looks like a normal photograph of a painting on the wall to me.

This was taken in St. Mina's Cathedral in Alexandria, where Pope St. Kyrillos is buried.  Look behind the person.

Anyways, another cool photo I saw online.  This is a group of Coptic Monks (I don't know which monastery) taken between 1898 and 1914:

I'm curious, it is normal to put a halo around the saint's head in Coptic Orthodoxy, correct? Perhaps this icon was written before he was made a saint, and they hadn't gotten around to adding the halo yet? Nevertheless, if that picture was taken after he reposed, that is amazing!

He just passed away in the 1970s.  Canonization takes 50 years.  But the people and priests already address him as a saint.  But yes, you're absolutely right.  We do add halos for canonized saints.

The glorious saviour of the "Belarussian people of Podlachia".
What is your problem? At least 400.000 Poles evicted from Białystok voivodship and Kresy compared to 161 Orthodox?
Why don't you move to Belarus? What's keeping you from moving there? There you can cry about Poland as much as you want. The majority of Orthodox accept the Polish state.

Quote
Deportations from border territories in 1939–1941

Several waves of forced resettlement occurred from the territories on the Western borders. These territories included Murmansk Oblast and the recently annexed lands: parts of Poland and Romania (about 20,000 people: the men were deported to Siberia, while the women and children to Kazakhstan), and the Baltic States.

In territories annexed from Poland (the Kresy territories and the Białystok Voivodeship (1919-1939)), the initial wave of repression of 1939 was in a way a continuation of the Polish operation of the NKVD and was rationalized as conviction of "social enemies", or "enemies of the people": military, police and administrative personnel, large landowners, industrialists, merchants. They were usually sentenced to 8–20 years of labor camps. In addition, the population along Poland's Eastern border, as well as forest-guards and railroad workers were interned. Massive deportations of the Polish population into remote areas of the Soviet Union took place in 1940–1941.

Estimates of the total number of deported Poles vary between 400,000 and 1.6 million people.

On 23 June 1940 Lavrenty Beria, head of the NKVD, ordered the Murmansk Oblast to be cleaned of "foreign nationals", both Scandinavians and all other nationalities. People of Finnish, Swedish, and Norwegian (see also "Kola Norwegians") ethnicities were moved to Karelo-Finnish SSR. Germans, Koreans, Chinese, and others were moved to Altay.

Deportations of "exiled settlers" from Baltic States (Lithuanians, Latvians, and Estonians) and annexed part of Romania (Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina) were carried out in May–June 1941.

In 1941 a significant number[quantify] of Poles were amnestied and freed from "special settlement" (but still barred from border territories).

Fr. Popiełuszko was a Belarusian. His friends (I have met one of them) mention that he spoke in Belarusian to his mother.

I won't respond to your silly theories here as it's not the right place.

And also... a question:

I noticed that soufliotiki shared her photo/image as an attachment.

Is that something we should all be doing?... Or is it OK to just post them as I have been, in the body of the post?

I guess the only consideration would be memory-usage/bandwidth or whatever?...

Anyone?

An Incredible Picture, taken at a moment where a saint of our church decides to reveal himself behind the man asking for his prayers.

I think the question here is that it looks like this is a photograph of a man standing in front of a painting depicting the former Coptic Pope.

Actually I really don't have 'a thing' for watermelons... I just thought they were interesting images.

I had never seen melons in the shape of a cube or pyramid before... just novel pictures, that's all.

But they would make for good gifts I think!

On another note...

Look at the size of this bulldozer!

On another note...

Look at the size of this bulldozer!

Crazy!
