The far right? That's a Hogwarts-themed trinket box. The rightmost tome in the row is Dark Ages: Vampire. It feels good to have the gaming books out in the open again. :)

The African Renaissance Monument in Senegal. Bigger than the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty.

Still have fond memories of this, Altoona (PA) public library. I first visited it around age 11, after my mom remarried and we moved, and the idea of a public library having three floors with books rather than one amazed me. The fact that you could look down on the main room, where most of the activity was happening, was also very cool.

On their website this image was captioned with--I kid you not--"Brinks delivers Elmo to the library." Elmo was apparently serious business, so they probably kept him in the room that had resources that could not be taken off the property.  :P

I think the Ostobramskaya is quite a nice, if westernized, icon.

The moon really ties it together, in my opinion.
“God,”
The words rumbled:
“There is much suffering,
But the church is alive. "

“How long, Archpriest, are we to suffer thus?” I answered: “Until our very death, Markovna!” And she replied, with a sigh: “So be it, Petrovich, let us plod on.” - Life of Avvakum by Himself

Nastasya, Nastasya, be
patient and do not cry:
Not every happiness
Comes in the clothing of fortune.

St. Avvakum, pray for us!

St. Ambrose, pray for us!

It used to be more Eastern (the same as the Częstochowa icon) but after a renovation it's become westernised.

The story behind this event in Alabama:

Quote
I was in the waiting room at the doc office today and this lady walked in with her sleeping baby! They handed her paperwork to do & as she was sitting there trying to figure out how to hold her sleeping baby while filling out the paperwork, this man, from across the room, asks her if she would like for him to hold her baby while she did her paperwork!! She smiled and said that would be wonderful!! This man went over there and rocked and loved on that baby like he was his!!

Today we celebrate 100 years of Polish re-independence (after 123 years of Russian, German and Austrian occupation we regained our country). In Warsaw 250 thousand people participated in March of the Independence in Warsaw
