"Long life to our fatherland, long life to our Orthodoxy!"

The fact that it is on Facebook makes it hypocritical in my mind. ATMs are less damaging than Facebook.

Nicely done, Dr. Dao.  :)

I read a couple days back that he settled with the airline, though of course the details weren't disclosed.

Moses And Me (Song of the year 120 BC)

I am not sure that the kid's response to this situation is the correct one. I think it might require a thread of its own. As superman would say: This is a job for Abba Hezekiah!

He would say that? I think I need to read more comics, he seems much different than I would expect from the movies!

You need to listen to the radio play versions like I do. Lois is much more helpless and reckless at the same time.

Coptic Carpool Karaoke ;D

I don't think I'll ever understand their vestment etiquette...  :P

The people in the video don't understand our vestment "etiquette", or rather, what is sacred and what is not.  Tonias are liturgical dress and shouldn't be worn outside of the Liturgy.  They shouldn't be worn out of on the street or especially for jokes like this.  This is another case of ignorance and familiarity breeding contempt in the Coptic Church - like "deacons" (read: readers and chanters) walking in and out of the royal doors or strolling in front of the altar like it's no big thing - and the clergy not wanting to correct anyone because either: a.) they don't know better themselves or b.) fear that the slightest contradiction of their whims and wannabe cuteness will drive the youth out of the Church in the angry huff of a spoiled brat.  The fact that they were playing around with hymns from Great and Holy Friday when Our Lord hung on the cross for us - and the fact that a priest was complicit in this - makes things even worse.  Lord, have mercy.

The term planet earth is an innovation which has arisen in recent centuries with the error of heliocentrism.

If one wants to confess a pure doctrine of Orthodoxy, they should be careful not to refer to the earth as a planet, unlike the current Pope as well as Patriarch Kirill and Patriarch Bartholomew, who regularly speak in error when they refer to our planet earth.

This is the logical outcome of spoiling your kids and letting them have everything - including Church - on their own terms all the time.  Coupled with ignorance and an inability to distinguish your cultural trappings from your faith, it's a deadly combo.

It's pretty bad when there are people in the comments saying "I'm not a Christian, but that seems incredibly offensive to Christians..."

+1

But a large portion of Coptic youth and parents obviously don't see the problem, and worse still, neither do a few of the "cool" Abounas.  At the end of the day, the line the parents and the priests will likely trot out will be, "At least they are active in the church and see the church as an important part of their lives!"  How helpful is this if they have a warped perspective on what the Church actually is?

Valaam, l'enchantement des Pâques russes

Documentary on Valaam during Pascha, including a bit about their choir, life on the island, and an interview with Fr. Seraphim.

If you know French, it will be particularly edifying.  If not, enjoy the cinematography.  It's well done.
