A prayer for my late aunt who was buried today.
"In Paradisum deducant te Angeli;
in tuo adventu suscipiant te Martyres,
et perducant te in civitatem sanctam Jerusalem
Chorus Angelorum te suscipiat,
et cum Lazaro quondam paupere,
aeternam habeas requiem.
Amen."
"May the Angels lead you into Paradise;
may the Martyrs receive you at your coming,
and take you to Jerusalem the holy city.
May the choirs of the Angels receive you,
and may you be with the once poor Lazarus,
have rest everlasting.
Amen."

May her memory be eternal! I remember that prayer. When I was studying at Notre Dame, one summer, one of my classmates, a priest, drowned in Lake Michigan. At his funeral, as his casket was leaving the church, we sang it in Latin in Gregorian chant. There wasn't a dry eye in the church. |

Indeed, a beautiful prayer and certainly one which feels just as 'home' in our tradition as in that of the Latin church. We do, after all, spring from the same source despite our Earthly differences. Lord, have mercy.
