ISLAMABAD — Gunmen shot dead a Catholic Pakistani government minister on Wednesday, after he had vowed to defy death threats following the murder of another politician opposed to an Islamic blasphemy law.

In broad daylight, unknown assailants sprayed bullets on the car of minorities minister Shahbaz Bhatti after he came out of a home in a residential area of Islamabad, police said.

Tragic.

Islam....most definitely a religion of "peace".

Lord, have mercy.  I'm sure there will be no investigation.

Even more likely Father there will be an 'investigation' that will round up a few 'suspects' but not attempt to deal with the underlying problems whatsoever. As a Pakistani gentleman I once worked with it put it he would rather rely on Satan himself to conduct a fair enquiry about anything at least when compared to the Pakistani govt.

May the holy martyr Shahbaz Bhatti pray for us, especially for Christians suffering under the yoke of Islamic domination!

Only last month he said he was not afraid to die for his faith.

May he serve as an example to all of us. The situation for Christians regardless of which Church they belong to is dire in Pakistan. The fact we all argue on these and similar forums should not blind us to the fact that for many in Pakistan and elsewhere we can simply be summed up as the 'enemy' due to propaganda been spread amongst an often ill-educated and easily inflamed populace. Not of course that we are immune to that in any spot on Earth.
