A dog, "Leao", sits for a second consecutive day, next to the grave of her owner, Cristina Maria Cesario Santana, who died in the week's catastrophic landslides in Brazil, at the cemetery in Teresopolis, near Rio de Janiero, on Jan. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/photos/missing-owner-photo-20110115-161943-656.html

^ Amazing how much our fur-bearing friends can grow attached to us. Sad, too, how much they miss us once we're gone.

Poor thing! Animals know when they've been loved. Twice now I've nearly been hit by another vehicle driving home, and both times the first thought that went through my mind was "but who's gonna look after the cats if I die?!"

As a big-time dog lover, this photo really touched me! I agree with everyone else that our pets know when they're loved and become just as attached to us as we to them.

What a touching photo. Animals are truly mystical creatures. They too shall be comforted in time.

I'm reminded of the friend of my grandmother many years ago whose elderly dog had a heart attack the same day he did (or so the story goes).

thats so sad We had our first dog for almost 16 years, when my father was having triple by-pass surgery many years ago, she would not move, bark react to anything, almost dead weight, the whole duration he was in surgery. Then all of a sudden she got up and started wagging her tail. We got a call a few minutes later from the hospital telling us the surgery finished earlier than expected and all went well. She knew.
