Don't beat the hell out of yourself, we are all the biggest sinner. Being 20 sure doesn't help with this one. Confession, confession, confession. Pray for mercy, God will give you the will to overcome temptation, even though it might take another decade for the hormones to wear off. Hope springs eternal kid. Wink

Lord, have mercy!

Indeed, like Ambrose said, we all are the biggest sinner. Also, consider one old patristic thought that passions of the flesh, such as gluttony and sexual lust, are actually less dangerous than passions of the soul, such as pride. They are easier to overcome. Good, loving marriage most definitely takes care of problems with lust. On the one hand, you don't want to marry in haste, but on the other hand, maybe if you have somebody whom you love, you should marry. You are in my unworthy prayer.

Lord, have mercy! Yes, as another said, confession every week if you must. This will certainly help with the struggle. Marriage and getting closer to 30 I have to say has made a huge difference. And of course the grace of God, which is the only means by which we repent.

Keep struggling.

I actually will attest to a good loving relationship does indeed take away lust.

Don't beat yourself up. My priest says that in his 35 year career, this is the worst this has been. Pornography addiction affects almost half his male parishoners. I know them, and they're otherwise wonderful people. It's the internet. Put your computer in a room where you don't have any privacy, and you'll be less tempted. And remember that this activity is corrosive to your humanity and the welfare of your loved ones.

I'll keep you in prayer.

THE RULE OF PRAYER FOR DELIVERANCE FROM EVIL THOUGHTS

(from the Slavonic "Priest’s Prayer Book", adapted to Greek usage)

Through the prayers of the Holy Fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

Heavenly King, O Comforter, the Spirit of truth, Who art everywhere present and fillest all things, O Treasury of every good and Bestower of life: come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O Good One.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (3x)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

All-holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Lord, be gracious unto our sins. Master, pardon our iniquities. Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for Thy Name's sake.

Lord, have mercy. (3x)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, Who art in the Heavens, hallowed by Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Through the prayers of the Holy Fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (12x)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O come, let us worship and fall down before our King and God.

O come, let us worship and fall down before Christ, our King and God.

O come, let us worship and fall down before Him, Christ the King and our God.

PSALM III

O Lord, why are they multiplied that afflict me? Many rise up against me. Many say unto my soul: There is no salvation for him in his God. But Thou, O Lord, art my helper, my glory, and the lifter up of my head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy mountain. I laid me down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord will help me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people that set themselves against me round about. Arise, O Lord, save me, O my God, for Thou hast smitten all who without cause are mine enemies; the teeth of sinners hast Thou broken. Salvation is of the Lord, and Thy blessing is upon Thy people.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, Glory to Thee, O God. (3x)

Our Hope, O Lord, glory be to Thee.

PRAYER I

O Master, Lord my God, in Whose hands is my fate, help me according to Thy mercy, and forsake me not to perish in mine iniquities, neither be it Thy will that I should follow the desires of the flesh against the spirit. I am Thy creature, despite not the work of Thy hands, for I am feeble; for I am come seeking refuge in Thee, my God and Protector: heal my soul, for I have sinned against Thee. Save me for Thy mercy's sake, for I was cast on Thee from my youth: let them be put to shame that seek to turn me away from Thee, by impure deeds, by foolish thoughts, by unprofitable memories. Drive from me every impurity, the excess of malice; for Thou alone art holy, Thou alone art mighty, Thou alone art immortal, having in all things power beyond compare, and by Thee is the power to withstand the devil and his hosts granted unto all. For to Thee belongeth all glory, honor and worship, to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

PRAYER II

May thine ill return upon thine own head, and let thy slander come down upon thee, O crafty and wicked demon: for I worship the Lord my God, and never will I speak blasphemy against Him. For how is it possible for me to vex, or blaspheme Him Whose glory I proclaim day and night, and at every hour, with all my strength and mind? But my doxology is indeed thine abuse; thou shalt see wherein thou slanderest Him, and as an apostate thou speakest against God.

PRAYER III

The Lord Who came into the world by the Most Pure and Holy Virgin and truly the Theotokos, unto the salvation of the world for the sake of us sinners, forbideth thee, O most crafty spirit, the devil. Cursed art thou and all thy wicked thoughts, whether at night or in the day. I exorcise thee by the name of the Consubstantial and Undivided Trinity, the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit: depart from me, the servant of God [name], put not thine evil thoughts into my heart, but depart unto a deserted land, without water, that the Lord visiteth not. I exorcise thee, O impure and blasphemous spirit, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, neither to flatter nor to trouble me with abusive thoughts as I make my prayer unto the Lord my God, but let all thy slanderous thoughts be upon thy head in the day of judgement: for I serve the Lord my God, and to Him alone I send up my prayers in the day and the night, to Him that abolisheth thee, yet hath mercy on me, and strengtheneth me, and forgiveth me, in His great goodness and mercy, all my sins. Get thee behind me Satan, and be thou cursed, with all thy wickedness and opposing power, for blessed and glorified is the most honorable name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

PRAYER IV, TO THE MOST HOLY THEOTOKOS

O my most holy Lady Theotokos, through thy holy and all-powerful prayers banish from me, thy lowly and wretched servant, despondency, forgetfulness, folly, carelessness, and all filthy, evil, and blasphemous thoughts from my wretched heart and my darkened mind. Quench the flame of my passions also, for I am poor and wretched, and deliver me from many and cruel memories and deeds, and free me from all their evil effects. For blessed art thou by all generations, and glorified is thy most honorable name unto the ages of ages. Amen.

More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, thee who without corruption gavest birth to God the Word, the very Theotokos, thee do we magnify.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Lord, have mercy. (3x)

Through the prayers of the Holy Fathers, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us and save us. Amen.

Lord, have mercy! Some sayings from the Desert Fathers may help you:

When Cyrus of Alexandria was asked about the temptation of lust, he said, "If you are not tempted, you have no hope; if you are not tempted, it is because you are sinning. The man who does not fight sin at the stage of temptation is sinning already in his body. The man who is sinning in his flesh has no trouble from temptation."

A hermit asked a brother, "Do you often talk with women?" The brother said, "No." He went on, "My temptations come from paintings old and new, memories of mine which trouble me through pictures of women." But the hermit said to him, "Do not fear the dead, but flee the living; flee from consenting to sin or committing sin, and take a longer time over your prayers."

A brother was obsessed by lust and it was like a fire burning day and night in his heart. But he struggled on, not examining the temptation nor consenting to it. After a long time, the fire left him, exinguished by his perseverance.

A hermit said, "Chastity is born of tranquility, and silence, and inner prayer."

A brother said to a hermit, "What am I to do, for these foul thoughts are killing me?" The hermit said to him, "When a mother wants to wean her baby, she smears something bitter on her breasts: and when the infant comes as usual to suckle, he tastes the bitterness and is repelled. So you ought to put bitterness into your thought." The brother said to him, "What bitterness is this?" The hermit said to him, "The thought of death and torment, which is prepared in the next world for sinners."

I also am struggling with this, big time!  the best thing you can do is use a computer in a place where others can see what your doing.  I don't use my laptop anymore, I use a big old computer in my parents' kitchen (and the one I am now using, at school).

what my priest told me was to go to my icons and pray when I am tempted. also, to keep an icon of the Most Holy Mother of God my the computer, to look at and pray too.

I find I look at it when I am bored, and there is a computer in front of me.  go outside, get soe fresh air.  take your prayer rope!   Wink

in my parish, my priest says this sin is one of the most he runs into with us guys.  he has a big stack of packets that are "Prayers for Purity" and he hands them out.  I try to pray them every day.  also, drink Holy Water daily.

talk to your priest about this, he was once a young man, too!  Smiley
confess, confess, confess!

Good luck, Lord have mercy!

I have the supreme delight to tell you that after the first post in this thread and the advice you've all given me, I managed to do an 180 degree turn to that situation. Of course, not me, but the Lord and not His unworthy servant. Only His Grace can conquer my passions and only through Him I find the strength to say no to them. Whenever I get bad thoughts, I say the previous phrase and they seem to vanish within seconds. Thank you everybody for the support and especially thank you for the prayers and the advice you've so generously offered.

I need to go now, for exams start on Monday, but I want to say a million times more THANK YOU! May the Lord protect and guide us all!

I am in the same situation, it is a hard addiction to fight. With the aid of God, anything can be conquered!

Lord have mercy.

Amen.  Addiction comes in so many forms and is very difficult to beat.  Yet, all is possible with God!

Lord, have mercy!

I'm battling this addiction as well. Please, if it's not too much trouble, pray for me along with this man.

Not only confession, confession, confession but fast, fast, fast!  Fasting is said to be the best defense against any attack of the carnal passions.  Lord have mercy on you and keep you.

I too can attest from personal experience that fasting helps with this.

Lord, have mercy!

It is not the task of Christianity to provide easy answers to every question, but to make us progressively aware of a mystery. God is not so much the object of our knowledge as the cause of our wonder.

Lord have mercy!

And get NetNanny. I bought it for myself and had someone else set it up for me so I couldn't disable it.
