Well, we don't know the date yet so some of us don't yet know if we're attending.

I am not sure until I know more details about cost as to whether or not I will be able to attend, but I would vote for either DC or NC.

Sounds good to me as well.  If we do it in DC again, I think we should all agree that we go to services together, no matter where they end up being, rather than split up.  Also, I think we could hold a couple of reader's services wherever we end up staying.

Let's stuff the ballot box! (You have voted in the primary today, no?)

I voted NY, seeing as I live here, Smiley but really any of the choices would be fine, as long as it's on the east coast. And as for dates, again, all three listed are fine...although I think the June dates would be better...and actually the second weekend in June, at that. But I would attend on any of those weekends. Smiley

And by the by, MsGuided's log cabin is SO FUN! It would fill my heart with joy if OCNetSummerfest '04 were to take place in a life-sized lincoln log cabin! Smiley

I voted for Steeltown in support of my friends Aristokles and Deacon Lance.

I saw enough of DC during the 2.5 years my son spent as a patient in Walter Reed Army Hospital.

Besides, I can get to Pittsburgh from my house by car in about three hours.

Joe,

If you want to go to the Old Rite church, I'll be happy to go with you.  I've never been there myself, but one of the families that helped to build the parish are the parents and grandparents of people at my parish, so I have a pretty good connection there.

Everyone should vote Pittsburgh because traveling the PA Turnpike is truly an ascetic experience (like wearing a hair shirt).

How true! Unless you're a local and know your way around that thing.
But Mr. Zollars might be on to something here. There are three Orthodox camps in the area - the ACROD one between Erie and Pittsburgh, the Antiochian Village in Latrobe, and I think a new Greek one down near Deacon Lance. Maybe one would have accommodations for a small party available in early June before the kids arrive. Be nice to have the option of an on-site church, 'indoor' camping for anastasios & bride, and still have all the other churches in a reasonable drive.

Come on, all the washington people switch your vote to Pittsburgh so that we can avoid going to NYC Wink .

Actually, it seems to me that Pittsburgh is in the middle between NYC and DC so woudl be a happy medium.  In addition to that, do you really want to have the summerfest in the same place every year? as they say Variety is the spice of life.

« Reply #31 on: April 28, 2004, 12:26:51 PM »

Well, if I may do some plugging:

Canonsburg, about 15 miles south of Pittsburgh on I79, 10 from the airport, has a Super 8 so you could do 4 people to a room for about $20 each/night.

St. John the Baptist Church OCA, All Saints Church, GOA, are within two miles of the motel, St George CHurch Antiochian is about five miles.

Holy Cross Church, GOA in Mt. Lebanon is having its Greek Food Fesival Jun18-21, it is about a 10 mile drive.

Camp Nazareth is in Mercer, PA is about a two hour drive from Pittsburgh
Antiochian Village is in Bolivar, PA a few miles past Ligonier is about a 1 hour drive from Pittsburgh

There's St. Mary's Coptic Orthodox Church in Ambridge, PA which, according to the Coptic Orthodox Church Directory, is basically considered Pittsburgh.

There's also Holy Virgin Dormition Church (ROCOR) in McKeesport, PA and this says it's 10 miles south of Pittsburgh.
Holy Trinity Church is about an hour south of Pittsburgh in California, PA.
And St. Basil the Great Orthodox Church is about 45 minutes south of Pittsburgh in Belle Vernon, PA.

Ok, so I have nothing better to do...
So this is what I gather from what people have posted (since I can't see who voted for what)...

People who definately want it in NY - MsGuided
People who definately want it in Pittsburg- Deacon Lance, Demitri, & Linus
People who definately want it in DC- Ania, Anastasios, Shultz

People who would want it either in DC or Pittsburg- Frobbie, Joe Zollars, David, Bobby.
People who would don't care where is & would go anywhere- TomS, Donna Rose.

Sound about right?

Yes, kiddies
The ole 'Burgh has all this and MORE...
If I have time I'll compile a list of Orthodox Churches within reasonable driving range (Deacon Lance, Schultz, Paradosis, and I know where all the strange 'suburban' towns are).
This is a big place for the Ruthenians as well. And of course, Pittsburgh is very Roman Catholic.
