O Holy Saint Grand Duchess Elizabeth, pray for us!

« on: January 11, 2011, 04:53:44 AM »

I'll be receiving the OSB within the next week and, not having regularly studied the Scriptures before, would like your prayers.

Prayers that Almighty God will speak to me through the Scriptures, prayers that I will understand them easily (this bible has additional books that my Baptist background does not use, so it will be a bit strange), and prayers that the Holy Scriptures will bring me evercloser to God and Orthodoxy. Thank you. Cheesy

In Christ Jesus, Our Lord,

I advise to read Mark, Matthew, and Luke in that order three times and very very slowly. Then John, then the Epistles of Paul then Apocalypse, repeat three times then slowly get into the Old Testament.

May God bless you on understanding the Scriptures and allow you to grow closer to Him.

May the Lord give you the blessing to understand the Holy Scriptures of His Church and thus enlighten you with them.

From the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostomos:

"Shine within our hearts, loving Master, the pure light of Your divine knowledge and open the eyes of our minds that we may comprehend the message of your Gospel. Instill in us, also, reverence for Your blessed commandments, so that having conquered sinful desires, we may pursue a spiritual life, thinking and doing all those things that are pleasing to You. For You, Christ our God, are the light of our souls and bodies, and to You we give glory together with Your Father who is without beginning and Your all holy, good, and life giving Spirit, now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen."
