My wife just learned that one of her students, E., a young woman from India, had attemted to commit suicide. It is her third year in the USA. E. dated a young man from India, also a student, but he recently got married (probably an arranged marriage). E. tried to kill herself by ingesting numerous pills (everything from Prylosec to sedatives and anti-histamines).

At the moment, E. seems to be in a rather stable condition, although she is still unconscious. Please say a prayer for her (she is a Christian, although I am not sure whether she is Orthodox). Many thanks!

A quick update: E. is fully conscious now, and it seems that there is no more physical danger to her. However, she is currently examined by a psychiatrist, to find out whether it was just an act of desperation or a mental illness that had not revealed itself in the past. Please keep praying for her. Thank you again!

An update... E. was examined by a psychiatrist, and the results are not good. She seems to be delusional, disconnected from reality. Right now, she is on her way back to India, where she will be treated at a hospital. There is no telling whether E. will ever resume her studies.

Please pray for E., and for other victims of suicide and their relatives at Lesya's department. Another student's mother killed herself (hanged) in the end of this past December, and also the husband of a research associate at the same department killed himself (shot). Seems like to much for one university department...
