Dear folks, may I ask for your prayers for me? I am generally in a pretty good health, but lately my heart is beating chaotically. It is not faster than normal, but simply completely irregular. It's been like this for something like 8 or 9 weeks. I saw a nurse practicioner, and she referred me to a doctor, but that doctor says that I need to see a different specialist, and that specialist's office is closed for the holidays, so I am "up in the air." Worst of all, I got scared when I read that dysrhythmia can cause a sudden cardiac arrest, and developed a kind of nervous insomnia. Thank you so much in advance, and blessed Advent/Nativity Eve!

Lord have emrcy on Your Servant and his family!
Have you noticed if certain foods, drinks, or stress issues cause the problem to occur?

Lord have mercy!
I had this too, it was very uncomfortable, but after two weeks, it completely went away. I hope this is true for you too, that it isn't life threatening.

Thank you, Father! No, no apparent correlation with food or drink or stress. I learned about this condition accidentally... When I was exercising in our gym, the machines I used showed the weirdest numbers in the "Heartbeat" window, like 30 per minute or so. Then Lesya wanted to measure my blood pressure at home, and could not, because our device wrote "Error" all the time. Then I checked my pulse, and... here I am. It really would not bother me; if I did not know that such thing as "pulse" exists, I would not know that I have this condition. The nurse says that I should limit the exercise, walk rather than run on a treadmill, etc.

Be very careful. Relax, eat healthy, etc. Will there be a cardiologist back between christmas and new year's?

Take care there are many more benign dysrhythmias than serious ones and most of the latter are easily managed through fairly mild medicine. I hope that it is likely that your PCP is good enough to at least distiguish between the less serious and more severe varieties. As already mentioned often rhythmmic disturbances can be temporary. Don't allow the internet to frighten you too much. I have a fairly serious heart condition, so say this with the greatest sympathy. You are in my prayers.

Sorry to hear that, Heorhij. I also have a dysrhythmia, and the pre-diagnosis part was the worst part to me. It's hard to be in a place where you're so desperate for an answer that even bad news is good news. I know it's hard, but really try not to worry too much. There are plenty of people walking around with heart disease who are asymptomatic and at risk for sudden cardiac death. You have the advantage of knowing that there's a problem and having time to do something about it. And your condition may not even be so worrisome as that. When you see the specialist, he or she is likely to prescribe some kind of heart monitoring (or just do an EKG right there), and perhaps a cardiac ultrasound. However, if you start feeling heart palpitations (like a fluttering in your chest or a strange awareness of your heart's beating) or any kind of chest pain, it would be a good idea to have someone take you to the emergency room, where they can do an EKG and get a cardiologist to see you immediately.

Lord, have mercy!
George! I have the same thing! It started on the 4th of July....my heart felt like it was flip flopping...this lasted for almost 10 hours! It was Sunday, and I took side streets instead of the freeway to work....because I almost passed out 4 or 5 times.
Went to doctor, she told me not to worry about it. Did an EKG...found nothing.
It happened again a few months later. Went to cardiologist this time. Since it had stopped by the time he saw me...they couldn't find anything wrong. Did a battery of tests - ultrasounds, MRI's, heart monitor... Nothing. The heart monitor required me to "press" the button if I felt something....but, I didn't.
Happened again a few weeks ago. I called his office because he said to come in for EKG. It lasts for 10 hours usually. Nurse said she couldn't fit me until 2 p.m. I told her it would stop before than...I called a number of times...but, no. It stopped at 1:30...and just wasted my time and money at 2 p.m.
That's where I sit, as well. No idea when it will hit, nor what causes it.
I do know that I am severely Vitamin D deficient. That was found out at the office health screening of all places. I had it confirmed at a local lab. I know Vitamin D is more important to health than previously thought...so, I am bought a supplement.
It's scary. Next time it happens (which I hope is never) I will head straight for the ER, so they can catch it in action.
Lord, have mercy and hopefully your heart will return to a regular beat.
