Saints Dimitrios and Georgios

« on: December 09, 2010, 09:20:13 AM »

I had ordered an icon of Christ as a Christmas gift for my grandmother and it arrived just half an hour ago. Take a look for yourselves, although the photo does not do it justice.

It is made by hand from this place, as a copy of a Byzantine icon, with traditional methods of Agion Oros with wood and gold. It is very big (32 cm x 42 cm), cost only 50 euros including shipping and my only concern right now is how my grandma will rearrange the house decoration to fit it.  Smiley

Fascinated is not a word that can fully explain how I feel about it now. This is the most beautiful icon of Lord Jesus Christ I've ever seen and will become the best Christmas gift for my grandma. Glory to the Lord!  Smiley

The Greek New Calender Nuns Convent in Wisconsin ,Makes things like this...They Cut out Icon's glue to a board or rock ,Use Gold or Silver Glitter or Gold paint and color paints to embellish them , then decoupage them ....They end up Looking really nice.....They take them to church festivals  ,Serbian,Greek, and other festivals and sell them to support there convent.......

Hmm..i dont think Icons were that popular in the Syrian Church unlike Copts or Armenians, The church in India being a part of the Syrian church never had much place for Icons.

But i think they are becoming more popular now...

Seems like Icons of the Syrian church, but i hvnt seen them in any church:)
