Please pray that I will find a parish that I can take my friends with hiv/aids, where they won't be told they have to hide their illness.  One has already been made to feel like a leper -- the other one is wanting to visit, and I don't want to put them through that too. Since I volunteer in the AIDS community, it is not uncommon for people to want to come to church with me. When I was still looking for Orthodoxy, I took people with aids (PWA) to the churches I attended, and there was absolutely no problem, in fact, they were received with love and compassion. I need a safe place to invite people.   One of them is a very close friend, RC, and she is reading and studying Orthodoxy -- please pray that not only will she have the strength to get to church (she is very ill, terminal), but that I find a place to take her.

Holy Father Patrick, thank you for your help!

My prayers are with you.

I also volunteered in the HIV/AIDS community, and I encourage you to continue in your search. First off, your friends will be better off when all of you find the right spiritual home. Also, the community will also be given a chance to grow as they learn and care for you and your friends.

The right place is out there for you, it's just that the place you are to do your work has not yet been found. Keep trying!

Prayers for you and your friends.

there is a Orthodox Archimandrite that is on another forum who works with aids/hiv people in the Connecticut area, maybe Dustin could assist with contact.

What area are you in? Are you looking for an Orthodox church specifically, or any HIV-friendly community?

Lord, have mercy.

I grew up in an Evangelical community with two friends who were HIV positive through contaminated blood products for haemophilia. Thank God I can recall them always being treated respectfully and participating in all aspects of our Christian life together.

I hope that if someone visited my congregation they would be treated the same way?
