People should be focusing on the real issues, and the real issue is with the slide of the dollar, Belgian beer is really expensive right now.

Depends on the beer, but to give one example a 12 oz. bottle of Gulden Draak or Piraat would be about $3.75 US. So a four pack comes in around $14-15 US. Pennsylvania taxes being part of that, which are really high for alcohol. Things are a little better in New Jersey, I just hate driving over there.

To me this is very worrisome problem that needs a solution and fast! In Christ, Andrew

No..no...no.... EVEN worse is the American Budweiser which has NOTHING to do with real Budweiser as brewed near Plsen in České Budějovice, Czech Republic! I know this to be true because my cousin, several times removed, said so and he is the Greek Catholic priest in Plsen for the Rusyn/Slovaks who live in that region.

They don't even share the same name. Interesting about the Belgian beers. I spent some time sampling around the country (Belgium that is) and was quite impressed.

I did that too, last year. I especially miss the lambics! I've found that you can get most of the main Trappist ales in America (though at a premium). But the varieties of lambics are much less available. In most places all that is available is Lindeman's Framboise or some of its other varieties, which are not really proper lambics. The one Trappist ale I am dying to try is from the famously uncommercial Westvleteren Brewery: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westvleteren_BreweryI shall have to make a religious/beer pilgrimage to the monastery next time I'm in Belgium.

According to my calculator, 12 ounces is about 350 mL of beer. Now try saying České Budějovice (Cheskey Budgeyovitse)! Soon it'll be time for igristoye.. Igristoje is the socialist antithesis of capitalist bourgeois champagne.

I cannot stomach Okocim. Another beer the Okocim brewery produces is Harnaś, which is also subpar. Although their nonalcoholic beer Karmi is okay. Do you know that the Okocim brewery was bought out by Carlsberg?

The two are better than the Buds, Busche's, Millers, and Coors. Though I am partial to a good ale or stout when I can afford it.

High Life's a good brew, I'm with you there. And, don't get me wrong, some of the microbrews/foreign beers are quite nice as well, you just don't talk about them in polite (or not so polite) company where I come from.

An Irishman was in New York on business. During the lunch break, a few of his American colleagues invited him to a pub down the street. One ordered a PBR, while another ordered a Coors, while yet another ordered Budweiser. To the astonishment of his colleagues, the Irishman ordered a Coke. "Sean," they said, "It's ok to have a beer if you'd like". To this the Irishman replied, "Well, since you lads aren't drinking, then neither will I." A few of my favorites (thus far): Paulaner - Hefeweisen Youngs - Oatmeal Stout and Double Chocolate Stout Sam Adams - Cream Stout Guinness Stout Heineken

I drank it running in between airport controls. It was shocking for me, because in Poland you can drink alcohol of any kind in any public place.
