Infant Question
« on: November 21, 2010, 12:43:42 AM »
Can an infant naturally/instinctually hold it's breath if submerged in water for a short time?

I've often wondered this, and I really don't think so.  at baptism, they are under so briefly, and it's not like the priest dunks them all the way down, or holds them under.   :)

I thought that they were supposed to be fully submerged, but my priest usually sits them in it and then splashes them with water, rather than going all the way under.

my priest fully submerges them, but only just.  I've seen it both ways.  I think the point is to get water ALL OVER the baby, by whatever means necessary.

Both mine did.
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth
