The Charter for Compassion. Excerpt: The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect. |

Does this apply to Islam?
Also, I thought the heart of our faith is union with the Holy Trinity. Compassion might be an outpouring of theosis, but it is certainly not the heart of our faith.

Is it really at the heart of all of them? I guess there might be some ethical traditions that call for genocide of the Jews, so maybe not. |

On March 22, for the first time ever, Karen Armstrong will present the “State of the Charter for Compassion,” highlighting the progress made around the world to re-center society around compassionate action and create a more peaceful planet. The live video will begin at 9 p.m. on the East Coast.
Her presentation will include stories from Pakistan, Jordan, Kentucky and Vancouver. She will address a global call to action with “Assignment Compassion,” and unveil of the redesigned Charter for Compassion site -- the new hub for this movement. |
