The Church of Greece issued a statement that the number of three sixes found in Revelation should not be allowed in sequences on the national identification cards to be issued next year.

From the article:
Quote
"The Church is obliged to protect personal freedom and defend the integrity of the faith," the Holy Synod added.

State planners have pledged to take the observation on board, it said.

Too bad you couldn't post this 60 posts later, biro.

This has been a battle for decades in Greece, many taking it as the Gospel Truth when they should know better.

They should stop listening to the televangelists.

I'll stick with them, thank you.

In the US, you have the Social Security Number (SSN). The Canadian equivalent is Social Insurance Number. Figure out the acronym. If you don't like it, I guess it can legally and legitimately be called "le Numéro d'Assurance Sociale"  Cheesy.

It makes me sad when I see Orthodox taking positions like this... Sure, keep the number off (as it should be), but don't treat it as though the mark of the beast is some number/ID card, that is just bull... That isn't even in the Fathers.

That isn't even in the Fathers.

I recall reading some patristic assertion that the Mark of the Beast is a spiritual mark, not a tattoo or some such.

We get these 666 outcries in the Romanian Orthodox Church too. I'd like to think they are imported from the wacko Protestant missionaries here, and not some internal development.
